Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships Curriculum in Classrooms

Across the school this term, all students will engage in lessons focused on positive coping strategies, problem solving and cyber safety in Respectful Relationships. These sessions occur in each classroom once a week, with a focus on teaching students how to build healthy relationships, resilience and confidence.

With our focus currently on positive coping strategies, students are learning about how to manage their emotions when they experience situations that cause them to feel angry, worried, nervous or scared. We work towards supporting students to develop efficient and positive strategies to navigate challenges that cause them to experience these feelings of discomfort, drawing on their emotional literacy knowledge from Term 1.

These lessons provide students a safe environment to explore uncomfortable feelings and situations. We engage in activities that support the students to develop their understanding and use of positive coping strategies, including acting out targeted scenarios.

Check out the list below with your child. What positive coping strategies do you use when you feel upset?

  • Take 10 deep breaths/belly breathing
  • Listen to some music
  • Go for a walk/exercising
  • Talk to a supportive friend or adult
  • Complete a guided meditation
  • Write down your feelings in a journal or draw a picture
