Years 2, 3 & 4

It is hard to believe that the term is almost over! In the year 2/3/4 class we have been having lots of fun with our literacy lessons as we learn to use different parts of speech. The students had to come up with different nouns, verbs and adjectives and write them down on pieces of paper. We then gathered on the ground and threw the papers in the air to mix them all around. After a good mixing the students then grabbed 4 pieces of paper each and had to turn the words in to sentences. Who knew words could be such fun!

We also learned a new game called connections. Students were presented with 16 words, and they had to try and find the connection between the words to group them into 4 groups of 4 words. The kids were very quick to find the connections, so Miss Jeffs needs to get trickier with the next selection.

The students have been loving getting their hands dirty this term as they learn all about caring for plants. Over the last couple of weeks, the students have been helping Joe to look after the garden out the front of our classroom. Some students were wonderful at removing the weeds that were trying to take over and another group helped to plant some new flowers in their place. It is wonderful to see the children take pride in trying to keep our space clean and nurturing our new plants.

Alongside this we have been excitedly tracking the growth of our mushroom farms. It has been amazing to see how quickly they grow and how big they can get. We have been discussing how putting the different mushroom boxes in different areas of the classroom may be affecting how the mushrooms grow. Next we are going to be learning about the history of mushrooms and how they were used in ancient times.
