Yr 12 Operations Management and VET Work Skills Excursion

42 Students departed GSC on Wednesday 8th May at 8:00am, travelling by bus to Queenscliffe, where we caught the SeaRoad ferry across to Sorento. The weather was on our side, with mild and sunny conditions and a flat ocean for the enjoyable trip.   Students had 2 hours in Sorento to explore local businesses, catching the ferry back to Queenscliffe.  We then headed 50 mins up the road to The Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie, where students listened to a presentation on Operations Management and participated in a lollipop making activity.  We then headed back to GSC, arriving just before 6pm.

The experience visiting the two main businesses, Sea Road Ferries and Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie, is being unpacked with students, to better prepare them for the main assessment for AOS 3 Operations Management later this term.

I would also like to share a message received from two members of the general public on interactions with our students: "We shared a Sea Road Ferry crossing with them, then found ourselves amongst many of them whilst waiting on our lunch in Sorrento. They impressed us on many levels:

- The way they spoke, interacted and looked out for each other.

- The positive interaction between staff and students.

- Their consideration of other people around them; many of whom were Seniors.

- Their inoffensive language and interesting conversations.

- Their positive social skills and demeanour, particularly dealing with local business staff.

- Their thoughtful consideration of the local business, environment and following customers by cleaning away their rubbish.

They were such a great group of young people which we felt comfortable to be around and who provide hope for the future."
