Debutante Ball 2024

On the 10th of May 2024, most Year 11 students participated in the Deb Ball held at Melrose Reception Centre in Tullamarine.  Dance lessons started on Wednesday the 13th of March and went through to the 7th of May. At first all the dances felt really hard, however the more practise you got, the more you realised that they were actually quite easy. The day of Deb was long and stressful but, it was so cool to see all of the effort and work that everyone put into having the perfect night. The dances looked so good, and everyone looked absolutely amazing. Overall, it was a day filled with lots of laughter, smiles and fun. We would like to thank Andrew and Gayle from Debutantes on High for the time they put into teaching us the dances and helping provide the suits for the partners. We would also like to give a huge thank you to Megan Penn for all of the time she put into making Deb as special as it could be. It was very unfortunate that she couldn’t be there on the night, however all her work and time was seen and very appreciated, so thankyou again for making it happen. Also, a thank you to the teachers and families who attended, especially Laura O’Meara and Kate Austin who MC’d the night. I would definitely recommend participating in the Deb Ball at Gisborne Secondary College because it will always be a night to remember.

The Gisborne Secondary College Deb is a day that everyone looks forward too. It’s a day where girls are able to live out their fairytale dreams of being a princess and the day the boys “became a man”- James M. Those days leading up to it were to put it harshly, very stressful and it was a lot of work. But the amount of fun and new friends that came out of it made it all so worth it “a good way to release the stress of the day…let go and have fun”-Melissa S. Getting to see everyone looking so dressed up and ecstatic for what was to come made me smile, the families gathering around taking endless photos of everyone, people frantically jumping in to join a photo with all these different people and different groups. And even when we took the big photo with the whole year level, it made me think about how leaving these people might be sadder than I thought. The anticipation and the exchanging of gifts, the singing, talking, photos, I could basically see the excitement flowing throughout the limos when we left.

When we arrived at the venue we got even more photos, photos with your partner, photos with just you, photos with friends, girlfriends, boyfriends, it was a lot, but it’ll create memories I will treasure for the rest of my life “it was truly a day filled with so much laughter and fun” – Grace O’M. I remember being so nervous, thinking about all the ways I would mess up. When it finally came down to it and we started dancing it all went away, it was great finally doing the dances we had put so much effort into the past 5 weeks, it made me happy to see everyone having a great time.

Dancing with everyone, laughing with everyone and just having a genuine good time, was something I, and I'm sure a lot of other people needed. I'm so thankful for the school and all the other people who took their time to make sure Deb 2024 was the best it could be.

The 2024 Gisborne Secondary Presentation Ball was a wonderful and exciting experience that we haven’t stopped talking about since it happened on the 10th of May. The formal yet exhilarating atmosphere was unlike anything else I had experienced before, and I loved being able to share it with my family, friends, and my Deb partner, Emily B. The most fun I had was on the dance floor during the couples' dances. The rehearsals leading up to the night were lively and enjoyable, making the effort worthwhile beyond the final performance. As the guy who was most familiar with the boys' opening dance routine, I was positioned at the front of the group on the night. While this was nerve-wracking, it proved to be necessary. I thought the boys' dance turned out great, especially since I had practically taught most of them the routine. The Deb was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I’d encourage everyone to participate in if given the chance. I will always remember the 2024 Gisborne Secondary Presentation Ball as one of the most fun events I’ve ever participated in.
