Playground Design - Measurement Assessment

This week in Mathematics students have been involved in a project to create a 3D model of a playground, blending creativity and collaborative skills. The project enabled students to demonstrate there understanding of measurement skills and knowledge including area, volume and unit conversions and encouraged teamwork, problem-solving skills. Students used various materials, such as modelling clay, cardboard, pop sticks, string and pipe cleaners.

Our class went all out for our Maths Playground Project assessment. We all enjoyed creating a fun and creative playground. It was such a blast brainstorming and building everything together. I never knew I had such crafting skills until I got involved in this project. Overall, it was a fantastic experience; we all learned so much while having a great time.

This term in Maths, we, as Year 7 students, focused on the topic of Measurements & Volume. Our major project was to create a 3D model (a diorama) along with a 2D plan to demonstrate what we had learned throughout the term. This project provided us with a valuable opportunity to apply our knowledge and showcase our creativity. While it posed a challenge, particularly as modelling was a new and complex concept for many of us, we strove to do our best and exemplify the college values of 'aspiring to achieve.' This experience pushed us to our limits and allowed us to create a model of a playground that met multiple criteria, resulting in both an amazing and creatively fulfilling endeavour.

The project was amazing. Everyone was creative and determined to make this model look its best. An unforgettable experience.

In Mathematics, we designed and created our own playground. We made our own equipment using a variety of materials such as pipe cleaners, cardboard, popsicle sticks, etc and stuck everything together using hot glue. I think this project was super fun and I hope to do more hands-on activities like this later in the school year.
