Italian Day

Thursday 20th June 2024

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Our Italian Day on Thursday the 20th of June is fast approaching.  This will be a dress up day for the students, as they will be invited to dress up in anything ITALIAN. They might like to create a costume from things they already have at home like an apron and a pizza tray or bring along a coffee maker and a coffee cup and come dressed as a barista? Perhaps one of the characters from Commedia dell’arte like Colombina who wears a dress with an apron or other characters such as Arlecchino, Pulcinella or Pantalone which the students have been exploring during the term. Maybe a famous Italian like Leonardo da Vinci or Marco Polo? What about a gladiator or throwing on a white sheet and a crown of leaves and becoming an Emperor? A soccer player, the famous Pinocchio or the Super Mario Brothers-Mario and Luigi? Perhaps think about dressing up as Michelangelo and bringing along a brush and paint pallet? What about designing a Ferrari car or a gondola and wear it as a sandwich board? The Mona Lisa is a great option or maybe a famous landmark like the Leaning Tower of Pisa otherwise the students can wear clothing in the Italian colours of green, white and red. There are lots of websites which provide great simple Italian costume ideas.

The day will begin with a whole school parade giving parents, friends and family the opportunity to come along and watch the opening of our Italian Day starting at 9:00am in the school hall. The parade will begin with students and staff exhibiting their costumes all to the sounds of Italian music from around Italy. It will be a day of activities for the students which will include a live theatre show by Troppo Troupe Inc who will be performing Commedia dell’arte. This will give the students the opportunity to see some of the costumes and masks which have been a part of their learning.

In the afternoon, parents, family and friends are invited to join the students for a special assembly at 2:30pm. The Assembly will include birthdays and awards, as well as performances by the students and a class by class parade of the masks the students have created as part of their learning.

Hope you can join us, and we look forward to an exciting and fun Italian day.
