CSDA Debating

Debating continues this week at home against OLMC .

The CSDA Debating Competition runs through Term 2 on the following evenings, at these locations:

Rundown of Round 5 (31/05/2024):

•           Training 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm

•           Final set up and Supper 4:30 pm

•           Coin toss will be at 5:00 pm

•           A 6:00 pm debate start and

•           Approximately 7:30 pm finish

Parents/guardians/carers are encouraged to be spectators of these debates, otherwise students will be ready for pick up approximately 1-1.5 hours after the debates commence.

All team members must attend every debate, and should a student not be able to attend a debate, whether they are a speaker or not, the parent/guardian/carer must inform the coach ahead of the debate about this student’s absence.

It is essential that debating students meet at the clock after our Sports Assembly every Friday, attend all training and the first six rounds. If your team makes it through to the Elimination round (and beyond) you also need to keep the above dates free.

TECHNIQUE

The cornerstone of our curriculum is technical development. We utilize the Coerver® Method of ball mastery and graduated pressure to build technical competence and play carefully selected games to build functional success.

PLAYER CONFIDENCE

We foster creativity by providing the players technical building blocks & encouraging creative actions in developmentally appropriate games. Our games are designed to be fun, challenging and to reward success and risk-taking.

TEAMWORK

Small group tactics and principles of play are taught in attack and defence by utilizing the structure of the many small sided games, which have made the Coerver® Curriculum so unique and recognised as the world’s leading technical football program.

SPORTSMANSHIP

We value winning but not more than character and effort. We encourage paying respect to players, parents, coaches and referees. Sportsmanship is emphasized to develop the whole person and not just the player.

With 2, 3 and 4 day options available, this is the perfect pre and early season preparation for St Pius X students looking towards a successful season. It is also a huge amount of footballing fun!

Rugby

Last weekend was a commemorative occasion, as St Pius X played St Aloysius’ College for the Ross Fagan Memorial Shield. This shield remembers two students from St Pius and St Aloysius’ who were close friends and played for their respective First XV sides before tragically passing away post-school.

The shield match was first contested in the early 1950’s and it is wonderful that the tradition continues today with Saturday’s game fiercely contested. Congratulations to our First XV winning 40-0 which continues their great start to the season.

VALE – James Dimitroff Class of 2008

Players also wore black arm bands to pay their respects for the passing of former 1st XV captain James Dimitroff, Class of 2008. James was an outstanding front row forward for the 1st XV and was appointed captain of the 1st XV in 2008. He led an esteemed group of players that included former Wallaby captain Michael Hooper and former Wallaby Luke Jones. He leaves a legacy through his family, his wife, son, along with the memory that he left in each of our minds and in our hearts.

May He Rest in Peace.
