Up In The Library
Term 2, 2024
In the Library, we love to showcase displays to suit themes that are being studied; or to feature book authors or illustrators. Our displays are all constructed out of hours by the College's wonderful Library team from paper, cardboard boxes and a bit of paint – often paper mache and paper tole in style.
Displays so far this year feature:
Freya Blackwood, an Australian Illustrator who has stunning watercolour-style illustrations, has illustrated such books as “Banjo and Ruby Red” and at least 25 other beautiful picture books. It was lovely to display these books and encourage everyone to notice how amazing they are.
We also have a display called 'Above and Below', which depicts a veggie patch and what might be found there. This display aims to encourage students to notice the many creatures that might be sharing our vegetable patch at school or home; whether they be above like blue tongue lizards, beetles, snails, butterflies and caterpillars, or below like worms, mole crickets, echidnas or ants.
Tomorrow, the College will be taking part in the 'National Simultaneous Reading Challenge'. This year’s book is 'Bowerbird Blues' by Aura Parker. We have the book displayed alongside a 3D model of a bowerbird and its bower. This display has been a great conversation starter as students have either wondered how the model has been made or have let us know of their bowerbird’s bower spotting when on holidays.
Feel free to come into the Library and take a look!
