Students at HTS have been demonstrating a positive approach to learning and engaging with staff and peers to create a safe learning environment. Teachers have been creating lessons with clear links to their learning outcomes; these are better known as Learning intentions. These are designed to help students hone in on the concept or topic they are learning and reach syllabi outcomes for their stage. Aligned with learning intentions, is an accompanying factor - Success Criteria. These are elements that will prove and explain how students will achieve the desired outcome. Inquire with your child/children about their learning focusing on Learning intentions and Success Criteria.
Just a reminder that Winter uniforms are compulsory as of Monday next week.
Students exposed to unsupervised technology cause great concern and risk to themselves and others. In our world today children are equipped with the ability to navigate and explore the uses of technology - these are both positive and negative skills. At school, we ensure the use of technology is supervised, used in a manner of respect and we strive for a balanced use between paper and iPads.
Research has shown the age of students' ability to explore devices has gotten younger. the impacts of this are a growing concern as this can lead to cyber safety and mental/social safety and exposure to content that is beyond their years.
We strongly recommend that students are monitored and not given ultimate freedom on devices as behaviour, social interaction and bullying can take place on social media and other platforms. It is also encouraged that time limits and boundaries are placed on devices as overexposure leads to poor sleep and physical movement which is also extremely important to experience.
Be mindful of the language that is expressed as when students are repeatedly using this it creeps into the conversations we have and social interactions with peers. This can lead to complications in peer friendships and interactions amongst the school and outside of school environments.
Remember our Ethos and focus are:
Live life to the full
I am Safe, I am valued, respected and cared for, and I am a learner.
