JAPAN | 2025

Over the holidays, four staff and 24 students took part in an incredible 19 day trip to Japan.
From the energy of Tokyo to the history of Hiroshima and Kyoto, and the fun of Osaka and Universal Studios, it was a trip full of unforgettable experiences. We visited some amazing places along the way including the Imperial Palace, Asakusa and Sensoji Temple, Sky Tree, Shinjuku, Harajuku, Hiroshima Peace Park, Miyajima Island and Nara, just to name a few.
A real highlight of the trip was our week-long homestay and time spent with our sister school, Kawaguchi Kita High School. The connections our students made with their homestay families were something really special and a great reminder of the power of connection. It was also a fantastic opportunity to strengthen our long-standing relationship with Kawaguchi Kita, a partnership that has meant so much to both schools over many years.
Throughout the trip, our theme was ‘living our values’, and our students did exactly that. They showed respect, resilience, responsibility and empathy in everything they did. Whether that was navigating the Tokyo subway, communicating with their host families, or representing Frankston High School in formal settings. Their attitude, teamwork and maturity made us all incredibly proud.
I would like to sincerely thank the staff who gave up their time and holidays to make the trip possible. Ms Wendy Goodman led the tour superbly and put in countless hours of planning and preparation to make sure everything ran smoothly. Ms Yuka Mukaiyama and Mr Isaac Bakker also provided outstanding support and care for the students throughout the trip.
Trips like this remind us how much we can learn from stepping outside our comfort zone and connecting with others. Our students returned with new friendships, greater independence, and a real sense of pride in representing Frankston High School.
