Being Authentic
“Emotional honesty, not perfection is what children truly need from their parents.” - Jessica Joelle Alexander
Being a Parent can be tough, being a child can be tough, we certainly don’t want to loose our temper or take out our frustrations, blame or burden our kids.
Being authentic means that we are able to model how to express our feelings in healthy ways and not be dishonest with how we are feeling.
Normalising the full range of emotions that come with living a rich full and meaningful life is the best thing we can do for our kids. No one feels happy all the time.
A range of feelings is normal and healthy. It is only how we manage those that matters.
During difficult times it is good to remind ourselves to be gentle with ourselves.
We are never going to be perfect, but we can always practice being more gentle, connected and authentic.
