Supporting Children Through Big Feelings đź’›

At times, all children experience big feelings; worry, frustration, sadness, or anxiety. Learning to manage these emotions is an important part of growing up, and families play a key role in helping children feel safe and supported.

You can support your child by:

  • Listening and naming their feelings (“It sounds like you’re feeling worried about…”).
  • Keeping routines steady and reassuring.
  • Modelling calm breathing or taking breaks when emotions run high.
  • Letting them know all feelings are okay; it’s what we do with them that matters.

If you’d like extra strategies or support, there are some excellent free local parenting programs available to help families build confidence and connection. These programs offer practical tips for supporting your child’s wellbeing and managing anxiety.

We encourage all families to take advantage of these wonderful resources. A little guidance can make a big difference for both children and parents.
