A warm welcome back to term 4 for our students, staff and wider school community - we look forward to a term with a deep focus on learning and engagement while celebrating many school community based and celebration events. It has been nice to experience some warmer weather mixed in with windy days but longer days definitely allow more opportunity to head outdoors and be more active.
It has been great to see our students settle back into the routines of school and hit the ground running with a settled week 1. A massive congratulations to our Foundation-2 students, staff and families as it has been great to be over at the pool and see a highly organised program from the team at BASC but also high levels of engagement from the students.
Term 4 is always a very busy one in the life of our school. In addition to our day to day busy teaching and learning program and our Swimming program we also have the Fresh Food Fair, School Concert, Transition program for Foundation 2026, assessment and report writing, year 6 graduation events and transition programs and preparations for 2026 classes and end of year celebrations - phew!!
We want to wish our school community all the best for the term ahead and we look forward to celebrating our student achievements and experiences each fortnight via our newsletter or at our fortnightly assemblies. We have also released a Fresh Food Fair Newsletter today that provides everything that you need to know for the weeks ahead so please take the time to have a read in preparation for Friday 7th November. We are very thankful to the way our Foundation-2 have settled into the swimming program during week 1 and we know that the program takes a lot out of the kids - especially our preps (but they are doing an amazing job). It has been great to have completed our 3-6 program in term 1 and allow some more focus on other upcoming school events. A big focus of the program is on Water Safety which is essential due to the environment that we live in. Our main water safety day for our Foundation-2 students is Wednesday 15th October where the students are encouraged to wear clothes over their bathers. Click here lo learn some more about the Victorian Water Safety Certificate that the students are working towards. A big thank you to the team over at BASC who have been super engaging with the kids but so well organised!

A collection of year 5/6 students ventured to the Leopold tennis courts on Tuesday for the School Sport Victoria Division Tennis Championships. The team performed at a high standard against some really tough competition in challenging conditions with high winds. A big well done to the kids, a big thank you to Mrs Lord for her support and as always thanks to our Surfside cheer squad of parents.

Our year 3 students have been involved in an intergenerational program with Ryman Aged Care in 2025. Our term 4 program started this week with a focus on shared technology and understanding. The program is aimed at building connection and intergenerational understanding. It is great to participate in shared stories and making new connections and the students especially enjoy afternoon tea.

Term 1 and term 4 are the terms that hats are compulsory for all students to be outside at recess, lunch, PE lessons and outdoor activites. This is supported by the Surfside and Department of Education Sun Smart policy. UV levels increase significantly during these terms and it is an important aspect around keeping our students safe. Students are required to wear a broad brimmed hat (caps are not ok). Students have been given a grace period in week 1 of term 4 but all students will be required to wear hats from week 2 or they will be required to be indoors during play periods and outdoor activities. Hats can be ordered from DCS UNIFORMS - CLICK LINK TO ORDER HATS HERE

Hats for Term 4 - Sun Protection Policy hats are mandatory for term 4 for all students to participate in outdoor activities and be outdoors during recess and lunch. If you need to order a hat for term 4 this can be done via DCS Uniforms - https://www.dcsuniforms.com.au/collections/surfside-primary-school
