State Athletics Carnival
On Monday October 20, a group of talented students proudly represented our school at the State Athletics Carnival, showcasing incredible determination, sportsmanship, and skill across a range of events. Competing against the best athletes in Victoria, our students rose to the occasion and brought home a bag medals.
At her final State Athletics Carnival, Ally Brooks (Year 12, Everard House) capped off an outstanding school athletics career with an incredible performance, claiming 1st place in both the 3000m and 1500m events, and finishing 2nd in the 800m. Her results are a true reflection of her dedication, perseverance and hard work over the past 6 years representing our school. We congratulate Ally on her remarkable achievements and thank her for her unwavering commitment, leadership and contribution to the school’s athletics program. She leaves behind an inspiring legacy for younger athletes to follow.
After six remarkable years of representing the school in athletics, Ethan Armstrong Bourne (Year 12, Everard House) has capped off his journey with an outstanding performance at his final state championships, claiming silver in the 3000m event. His dedication, resilience, and passion for long-distance running have been evident throughout his time at the school, consistently inspiring teammates and younger athletes alike. This final victory is a fitting tribute to his commitment and talent, and a proud moment for the entire school community.
York Murray (Year 8, Toner House) and Arizona Peel (Year 8, Skipper House) represented Eltham at their second successive State Athletics Carnival. Yorke finished 6th in the 800m and Arizona finished 7th in the High Jump. Beyond the results, both students demonstrated incredible determination and school spirit throughout the day and truly displayed the values of commitment and pride that our school strives for.
Congratulations to our Year 8 boys’ relay team — Yorke Murray (Toner House), Jesse Porter (Everard House), Bruce Thornber (Toner House), and Charlie Stow (Toner House) — who delivered a thrilling performance to win the 4 x 100m relay. Their teamwork, speed, and determination were on full display as they powered through each leg of the race with precision and passion. This well-earned victory is a testament to their hard work and commitment, and we couldn’t be prouder of their achievement.
The school would like to congratulate all athletes on their hard work and success, and thank the families, and coaches who helped make their achievements possible. Their performances have once again highlighted the strength of our school’s sporting program and the dedication of our students.

Mt Rothwell Biodiversity and Interpretation Centre
On Tuesday October 14 a group of 15 students and 6 staff visited the Mt Rothwell Sanctuary. Managed by Odonata Foundation, Mt Rothwell is Victoria’s second-largest predator-free safe haven. The 473 hectare property consists of protected grasslands and woodlands and is home to some of the state’s most threatened wildlife, including eastern barred bandicoots, southern brush-tailed rock-wallabies and eastern quolls. It was a rare treat to see some of these critically endangered animals. Keep an eye out for another opportunity to visit the sanctuary in 2026.
