Preparing for the Sacrament of Reconciliation

This week our Year 2 students, along with some older students from other classes, took part in their Reconciliation Retreat Day in preparation for receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

The day began with a discussion about the seven sacraments and how they are grouped into three categories — Sacraments of Initiation, Healing, and Service. Students learned that Reconciliation is one of the Sacraments of Healing, where we experience God’s love, forgiveness, and mercy.

Together, the students explored the four stages of forgiveness:

  1. Admit – recognising when we have done something wrong
  2. Say sorry – expressing our sorrow
  3. Absolution – receiving forgiveness from God through the priest
  4. Action – making things right and trying to do better

They also rehearsed the words they will say when they meet with the priest and reflected on the Act of Contrition, a special prayer that tells God how truly sorry they are.

Next Tuesday, the students will share their learning with families during the Family Faith Sharing afternoon.

“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you.”— Ephesians 4:32

May our students continue to grow in kindness, compassion, and forgiveness as they prepare to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation.  Please keep them and their teachers in your prayers.
