From the Principal

Dear BMGS Families,
Farewell to the Class of 2025
Today marked a milestone moment in the life of our School as we formally farewelled the Class of 2025. We could not be more proud of them. Their achievements are many, their bond as a cohort is strong, and their growth as individuals has been remarkable. Recognising this journey together honours both who they are and who they are becoming.
Last night we celebrated their Valedictory at the Western Sydney Convention Centre. It was a spectacular evening—full of warmth, pride, and gratitude. Families, friends, and staff gathered in great support to mark the conclusion of 14 years of schooling and the beginning of an exciting new chapter.
As Principal, I often have many speaking engagements throughout the year, but I always consider the Valedictory address a highlight. It is a privilege to send out a group of students who have journeyed through school and are now stepping confidently into adulthood.
In my address, I shared three key messages with the Class of 2025:
Carry Hope Boldly: In a world that will at times feel uncertain, I encouraged our students to resist fear and despair, and to remember that they have been created with gifts that matter. As I reminded them from 1 Corinthians 15:55: “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” The Christian message is not one of despair, but of triumph.
Be a Linchpin: Drawing on Seth Godin’s writing, I reminded them that a linchpin isn’t the loudest voice in the room, but the one who quietly holds things together through creativity, kindness, and initiative. They each received a small linchpin as a symbol of this call to be indispensable in the ways that matter most.
- Step into the Arena: Quoting Theodore Roosevelt, I urged them not to be critics on the sidelines but to enter life’s arena boldly, where they may stumble, but where they will also know the triumph of achievement, the satisfaction of courage, and the joy of contributing to a worthy cause.
The Class of 2025 has been a gift to Blue Mountains Grammar School. They leave with our affection, admiration, and confidence. We look forward to watching them write stories worth telling.
As we close this term, I wish every family a safe and refreshing break. We look forward to welcoming you back for the final, exciting run toward the end of the school year.
Warm regards
Steven Coote
