This week Year 5 began their leadership campaign for 2026 with a Leadership Seminar on Monday morning. I was so impressed with their enthusiasm and understanding of leadership, as they thoughtfully engaged in discussions about responsibility, teamwork, and being positive role models within our school community. It was wonderful to see them reflect on the qualities that make great leaders and begin thinking about how they can contribute to our school in meaningful ways. This marks the beginning of an exciting journey as they prepare to step into leadership roles next year, and we look forward to seeing their confidence and voice grow over the coming months. All leadership positions will be announced to the community during the Primary Presentation Day on 3 December 2025.

Please be advised that HPE days for 4M are as follows:
We’re thrilled to see so many students participating in before-school training this term. It’s a wonderful reflection of their enthusiasm and commitment. To help students build strong organisational habits and executive functioning skills, we ask those students who do not have HPE during the school day to change into their formal uniform after training.
These routines not only support cognitive development but also reinforce respect for our school’s Uniform Policy. Your support in ensuring your child brings their uniform, including formal shoes, each training day helps us maintain our high standards and fosters a culture of responsibility and pride. Thank you for partnering with us in maintaining these high expectations.

Year 2 had an out-of-this-world experience last Thursday with a visit from Starlab. This engaging incursion supported their science learning for the semester. Inside an inflatable dome, students enjoyed a captivating planetarium show exploring the relationship between the Earth, Moon and Sun. They discovered fascinating facts about our solar system and learnt about some of the misconceptions people once had about space. Upon returning to Earth, the Year 2 students unanimously rated the experience a 10 out of 10!

On Monday morning, Uncle Boomerang had our Prep to Year 2 students dancing, singing, throwing rubber boomerangs and asking many curious questions as they examined the large collection of First Nations artefacts he brought in to show them. These included beautifully carved wooden toys, skins, Bush Tukka, strings made from native hibiscus and wax from native honeybees. In his discussions about Turrbal and Yagara seasons, we were reminded just how many seasonal markers we see around us every day. We will think differently next time we see a silky oak tree flowering or a magpie swooping.

On Monday, Clayfield College hosted its much-anticipated Year 7 Orientation Day, an engaging event designed to welcome new students and prepare our continuing Year 6 cohort for the exciting transition into high school. The day was filled with laughter, teamwork, and new learning as students forged new friendships and explored the next chapter of their Clayfield journey.
From the moment they arrived in their ‘Year 7 2026 shirts’, our Year 6 students were buzzing with enthusiasm as they met many of their future classmates. Some, they fondly remembered from the Experience Day, and welcomed with open arms. The day began with a creative activity where students collaborated to build a 'Wall of Fame,' showcasing their individual aspirations, talents, and shared values.
One of the highlights of the day was the Amazing Race-style team building challenge. Students teamed up with Year 9 mentors from their respective Houses to solve cryptic clues that led them around the school. Along the way, they answered Clayfield College themed questions, strengthening their knowledge of the campus and the school rules. Physical team challenges added an energetic element to the day, with students participating in volleyball and kin ball matches. Students also utilised the newly opened Edge building to construct and paint Christmas ornaments. In the afternoon there was a wonderful moment of tradition and leadership, with our current students leading the newcomers in singing the College Hymn and the College Blessing.
For many students, the most memorable part of the day was simply meeting new friends over a shared lunch. The opportunity to interact with new peers, connect with staff, and understand more about secondary school procedures helped ease any nerves and build confidence. As the day ended, it was clear that our students are not only ready for the transition, but they’re also excited for the journey ahead.
