Principal's News

Dear Parents/Carers,

Mother’s Day Breakfast

We enjoyed celebrating the wonderful mums and special women in our students’ lives at Sacred Heart’s first Mother’s Day Celebration on May 8th. It was heartwarming to see families come together to enjoy breakfast, visit classrooms, play games, admire student learning and create special memories. A highlight was watching students proudly share their classrooms, artwork and favourite learning spaces with their Mums. Thank you to all staff, families and volunteers who helped make the morning such a success, particularly Rachelle Neale, Ms Lynch, Louise Dare, Craig Cooper, Michael Swanson, Mary Sproules, Mr Maddern and the Year 6 students for their organisation, support and thoughtful contributions.

A big thank you also to the group of Mums who organised the fantastic opportunity for our students to purchase a gift for their Mums. It was great to see the smiles on the children’s faces when they chose their special gift.

Walk to School Safely Day

Gallery Image

Walk to School Safely Week is from 15th – 22nd May. This is a very important message for all our students about safely walking to school. We are lucky to have our local police, Mixx FM, Treasure Hunters, Colac Area Health, Colac Otway Shire and Colac Woolworths supporting the event. Throughout the week, each local school has been allocated a day when the police will help walk the students to school.  Our allocated day is Thursday 21st May and students will walk from Colac Secondary School Bus Depot. Students who travel by bus have the opportunity to walk with Sacred Heart staff and the police to school. The offer is also there for all students who would like to walk to school. Parents may drop their children off at the Colac Secondary School bus depot between 8:00am – 8:15am.

Another option is that parents walk their students to school. You may park your car a street/ or two away from school and walk with your child/children and teach them the valuable lesson of crossing roads, looking out for cars etc. We are all in this together.

SURVEY for students walking from Colac Secondary College

There has has been a survey put on PAM only for those students walking from Colac Secondary School Bus Depot.   Could parents complete as soon as possible?

Note: after completing the survey if your child is not able to participate, please contact the school Ph: 5231 5292 between 8:00am and 8:20am on the morning of Thursday 21st May so staff are not waiting for them at the college.

Catholic Education Mass

Catholic Education Week will take place from the 25th to the 29th of May. To celebrate this event, all staff and students will attend Mass at St Mary’s Church on Thursday, 21st May at 10:00am-11:00am. Students will travel by bus to this event. The buses will leave Sacred Heart at 9:30 am and return at approximately 11:20 am. The Mass will be celebrated with students from St Mary’s Primary School, St Brendan’s Primary School and representatives from Trinity College. Parents/Guardians and Grandparents are welcome to join us in this celebration.

Year 6 Catholic Education Week Celebrations

After our Catholic Education Week mass on Thursday 21st May, our Year 6 students (with Year 6 students from St Mary’s and St Brendan’s Primary Schools) will walk to One Movement in Queen Street, to participate in an exercise program with Andre Delorenzo. After the exercise program, students will walk to Colac Memorial Square for lunch. Year 6 students will return to school at 2:00pm. Students will need to wear their sports uniform, bring along their fruit, snacks, lunch and drink bottle.

(Year 6 Please complete Permission details on PAM for your child)

Year 2 Excursion

Our Year 2 students are currently exploring the topic of Past and Present, learning about how life has changed over time. On Thursday, 21st May, they will take part in an excursion to the Colac Historical Society at COPACC, visit the Shrine of Remembrance, and explore some of the older buildings along Murray Street. During their visit to the Historical Society, students will hear engaging stories from the volunteers about what school life was like in the past. They will also have the opportunity to view a range of historical artefacts. The excursion will take place following our Catholic Education Mass at St Mary’s. Students will travel by bus from St Mary’s Church to COPACC and will return to school at approximately 1:20pm. Students will need to bring fruit, snacks, lunch, and a drink bottle. Please check the weather forecast, as a coat may be required.

Congratulations, Mrs McGuane!

Congratulations to Katrina McGuane, who is celebrating an outstanding 30 years of service in Catholic education this year. Throughout her career, Katrina has contributed in a variety of roles, including 1 year at St Patrick’s in Camperdown. She has demonstrated a deep commitment to students, colleagues and the broader school community. Katrina’s dedication, professionalism and care have made a lasting impact, and this milestone is a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge her contribution.

Katrina will be formally recognised at a dinner on Friday 29th at Damascus College in Ballarat. We congratulate her on this remarkable achievement and thank her for her years of service.

Learning Walk

Our final guided Learning Walk for parents/guardians of prospective families to visit the school and see the children's learning in action will be held on 1st June 2026 at 9:15am. This is more than a school tour.  It will give families a first-hand look into the classrooms and the learning, the opportunity to ask questions, and the chance to meet, listen, and learn with other parents.

NO STANDING SIGN – Opposite the school on Hart Street

Parents please be reminded to observe the “No Standing” restrictions between 3:00pm to 4:00pm across the road from the school, along Hart Street.

This area has a “5 Minute Drop off zone” between 8:30am to 9:15am Monday to Friday only.

From this week onwards, parking officers will be monitoring the area and fines may be issued to vehicles parked in No Standing zones. We kindly ask all families to follow parking signs and use designated parking areas when visiting the school. Your cooperation helps keep our school community safe. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Assessment Conversations

Thanks to our teaching staff, who have been busily assessing students and completing reports that will be finalised in the coming weeks. In weeks 9 and 10 of this term, teachers have dedicated time to discuss students' achievements this year and set future goals. It’s important to note that these conversations form an integral part of the reporting process, and we stress the importance of parents participating in these. The children are invited to participate in part of this conversation, and parents will receive their child/ren’s mid-year report at this meeting. Parents are urged to book a 20-minute appointment with their child/ren’s teacher(s). These bookings should be made via the PAM platform and are open now. They will be conducted out of the school's Multi-purpose room. Please give the office a call if you require some assistance with making a booking.

Kind regards,

Karl Dwyer
