Grade 3/4 News
Term 2, Week 6
Welcome back to the 3/4 page.
Conversations at home about school are a wonderful way to connect with your child, engage with their learning, and discover the new concepts and experiences they are exploring in class. Over the past fortnight, our Grade 3/4 students have been busy completing assessment tasks while continuing to build their understanding across a range of learning areas.
In Literacy, students have explored figurative language and personification through poetry. Drawing inspiration from exemplar texts like Mr. World, showcasing imagary and figurative language to bring to life everyday objects and animals by using human traits, feelings and actions. Students have enjoyed bringing items such as pillows, alarm clocks, pets and even air conditioners to life!
Students have been developing their understanding of chance through everyday events and repeated probability experiments. Using a probability continuum, they have described the likelihood of outcomes and explored concepts such as equal and unequal chance and certainty through games and real-life examples. Students have also decided it is highly unlikely their teacher will turn into a robot, but highly likely they will receive a GuGu sticker before the next school holidays!

In our Topic unit, Blue Marble, students will continue learning about endangered animals around the world while focusing on one specific species. They will build a deeper understanding of their chosen animal, explore the reasons it is endangered, and use this knowledge to begin advocating for positive change through a creative campaign.
In Literacy, students will review information texts, focusing on language and structural features. They will also learn how to summarise information through research on their chosen species linked to our Blue Marble Topic unit.
In Mathematics, students will develop practical skills in working with money, including solving simple financial problems involving addition, subtraction, and calculating change. They will build on their understanding of number patterns and relationships, using basic algebraic thinking to identify, describe, and continue patterns, and make connections between these concepts and their everyday world.
