SCHOOL LEADERSHIP MESSAGE

Our ANZAC Day assembly was a meaningful and respectful occasion that brought our school community together to pause, reflect and remember. It was heartening to see students engage so thoughtfully as we honoured the service and sacrifice of the men and women who have served and continue to serve our country. I’d like to thank our community representatives, David Jackson from the RSL and Jan Hutton from the Lions Club, for their attendance as special guests.
In my address, I spoke about ANZAC Day not only as a moment in history, but as a reminder of values that remain deeply relevant today: courage in the face of challenge, mateship and loyalty to one another, and a willingness to contribute to something greater than ourselves. These values were evident throughout the assembly, from the respectful behaviour during the Last Post and minute of silence to the care and responsibility shown by our student leaders.
I also reminded students that remembrance is an active responsibility. As young people, they carry these stories forward by living out ANZAC values in their everyday actions - showing kindness, perseverance and respect for others. Seeing our students participate with such dignity was a powerful affirmation that these lessons are being understood and embraced.
It was also a pleasure to welcome so many families to our recent Year 7 Information Night. The strong attendance from Year 5 and 6 students and their families reflected the high level of interest and trust our community places in the school. I would like to commend the commitment and enthusiasm of our staff, who showcased their subject areas through engaging group activities, giving families a real insight into the breadth and quality of learning opportunities available. A special thanks to the team for the wonderful catering on the evening. Their efforts added warmth and hospitality and were greatly appreciated.
I am also delighted to celebrate our community’s commitment to excellent school attendance. Our current attendance rate of 87.6% is the best it has been in over five years, and this is something we should all be proud of. Regular attendance is one of the strongest predictors of student success—it supports learning continuity, builds positive routines, strengthens friendships and helps students feel connected and confident at school. Thank you to families for prioritising daily attendance and for working with us to ensure students are at school as consistently as possible. Let’s keep this positive momentum going.
I would also like to thank families for seeking principal approval for family holidays during term time where required. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping communication open. Please remember to email or call the school before going away so arrangements can be noted. All student absences must be explained. This can be done by entering the absence on Compass, replying directly to the text message from our attendance officer, or by phoning or emailing the school at korumburra.sc@education.vic.gov.au. Your prompt communication plays an important role in supporting student wellbeing and meeting our attendance requirements.
Finally, I would like to sincerely thank our families and broader community for your continued patience and understanding during the ongoing roadworks on the car loop. These works experienced some delays due to the required removal of previously buried asbestos. As a reminder, there will be no access to the College this Saturday to allow for the safe removal of the final remaining asbestos identified on site. We greatly appreciate your cooperation as the works are completed. Your understanding and support are essential in ensuring our school remains a safe and functional environment for everyone.
