H2GP RACE TEAMS

H2GP Race Teams Gearing Up for 2026!
We are excited to share that two student teams from Korumburra Secondary College have officially begun preparations for the 2026 Horizon Hydrogen Grand Prix (H2GP) – an international STEM competition that challenges students to design, build, test, and race hydrogen-powered model cars.
The Horizon Hydrogen Grand Prix is a unique, real-world learning experience that brings together engineering, renewable energy, teamwork, and strategy. Students take on a variety of roles including vehicle design, testing and troubleshooting, race driving, data analysis, and team coordination, all while working towards a competitive race event.
Meet Our Teams
This year, we are proud to have two teams representing our school:
- Team 1: “Zero Gravity” – students from our Likeminds class
- Team 2 – “The Burra Flyers” students from Years 9 and 10
Students earned their place on these teams through a detailed Expression of Interest process. As part of their application, students demonstrated their enthusiasm for STEM, outlined the skills and qualities they could bring (such as teamwork, problem-solving, and technical abilities), and reflected on their ability to commit to a long-term collaborative project. They also identified specific areas of interest, from engineering and race strategy to media and data analysis.
Building Skills for the Future
Preparation is already underway, with students beginning work in Term 2 on:
- Designing and building their hydrogen-powered vehicles
- Testing and refining performance
- Developing race strategies and pit crew roles
- Practising teamwork and collaboration
The program culminates in the Victorian race event on Tuesday 18 August 2026, where our teams will compete against other schools from across the state.
Thank You to Our Supporters
We would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Martin Carlson Foundation for their generous support of this program. Their contribution has made it possible for our students to participate in such a rich and authentic learning experience.
This support helps cover essential costs including materials, competition entry, and resources, ensuring our students can fully engage in this innovative program. Beyond the classroom, H2GP provides valuable opportunities for students to build confidence, resilience, and skills that connect directly to future careers in engineering, renewable energy, and emerging technologies.
We look forward to sharing updates as our teams continue their journey toward the race day. Best of luck to our Speeders and Team 2 as they represent our school in this exciting challenge!
