Senior School Report

Senior School News!

We are now several weeks into Term 2, and our senior students have settled well into classes and routines.

It has been pleasing to see many students demonstrating a strong commitment to their studies, attendance and involvement in senior school programs and activities.

As we move further into the term, there are several important upcoming events and assessment milestones for students and families to be aware of.

Mid-Year Exams

Mid-year examinations will take place for all students completing a VCE subject in Semester 1 from Tuesday 9 June to Monday 15 June

VCE students who are completing exams will not be required to attend their usual classes during this period. VET classes will continue on Wednesdays.

Exams provide students with an important opportunity to consolidate their learning, practise examination skills and identify areas for improvement before final assessments later in the year.

Students should now be:

  • Revising class materials regularly
  • Establishing consistent study routines
  • Seeking assistance from teachers where required
  • Ensuring they are balancing study, sleep and wellbeing

Exam timetables and expectations will be distributed shortly. We encourage all students to begin preparing early and make the most of the support available to them.

GAT – General Achievement Test

All students completing a Unit 3 and 4 VCE/VM unit this year will sit the GAT on Tuesday 16 June

The GAT plays an important role in the assessment process and is used by the VCAA in a number of ways, including checking school-based and external assessment results.

The exam consists of Section A: Literacy and Numeracy skills and Section B: General Knowledge and skills. Please note students who are unscored or completing VCE/VM will only be required to sit Section A.

Whilst students cannot formally prepare for the GAT, they are encouraged to take the GAT seriously and to attend fully prepared on the day.

Senior Formal

Preparations are underway for this year’s Senior Formal, which is always a highlight of the school calendar. The event provides students with an opportunity to celebrate their achievements, connect with peers and create lasting memories together.

Date: Friday 19 June from 7pm to 10.30pm

Venue: The Stamford Hotel, Rowville

Dress code: Formal Attire

Students and families are reminded to ensure consent and payment is completed on Compass by Friday 5 June.

We look forward to what promises to be a fantastic evening for our senior students.

A Reminder About Attendance

Regular attendance continues to be one of the strongest predictors of success in senior school.

As coursework and assessment demands increase throughout the term, it is vital that students attend all classes and communicate with the school regarding any absences.

We thank families for their continued support and partnership as we work together to help students achieve their goals throughout 2026.

VCE Vocational Major

The VCE Vocational Major (VM) program at Scoresby Secondary College continues to provide students with meaningful, hands-on learning experiences that build confidence, independence and real-world skills.

Students are encouraged to explore their interests, strengthen their communication skills and prepare for future pathways including employment, apprenticeships and further education.

We are proud of the enthusiasm and effort our VM students continue to demonstrate throughout the year.

Students undertaking Unit 1 and Unit 3 VCE VM Work Related Skills have demonstrated strong development in both their practical abilities and employability skills throughout the semester.

Working collaboratively in teams, students are learning to apply positive and respectful communication while contributing effectively to shared tasks.

A key focus has been on effective communication, planning and organisation, with students completing workplace-style documentation such as job cards and recording evidence of their processes from planning through to task completion. This has strengthened their understanding of workplace expectations and accountability.

Learning takes place within a simulated onsite work environment, where students are actively involved in establishing a school kitchen garden and surrounding landscape features.

Through this hands-on approach, students are developing practical skills across a range of areas including carpentry, gardening, planting, bricklaying, painting, and general maintenance, alongside administrative responsibilities.

Students are showing increased confidence, independence, and pride in their work, particularly in the ongoing care and maintenance of the spaces they have created.

Overall, the program is successfully building real-world skills and preparing students for future pathways in both employment and further training.
