Work Experience
Work experience preparations are continuing to progress well, with placements scheduled from Monday 22–Friday 26 June.
Students have now completed, or are in the process of finalising, their Occupational Health and Safety training certificates during their Learning Mentor program sessions.
If your child has not yet completed this requirement, we encourage families to check in with them and support them in ensuring it is finalised as soon as possible.
Completed Workplace placement forms are due to be returned to the Careers Office by Friday 22 May. This timeline is important to ensure all processing, approvals, and workplace checks can be completed in line with Department guidelines prior to students commencing work experience.
In the coming weeks, students will bring home their Work Experience booklet, which contains important information and activities to be completed throughout their placement. The booklet includes reflection questions for students to work through while on work experience, as well as an evaluation form at the conclusion of the placement that employers will be required to complete and sign on the student’s behalf.
Work experience provides students with an invaluable opportunity to develop confidence, workplace skills, independence, and a greater understanding of future career pathways. The support of parents and carers in helping students secure and attend placements is greatly appreciated and plays an important role in making the experience a success.
Work Experience – VIC POL
Scoresby Secondary College successfully secured work experience with Victoria Police.
This is run through a ballot system for all schools in the state, which we have been entering for many years.
Please hear from Sammi our Year 11 student whose application was successful in securing the position.
"VIC POL work experience was an amazing opportunity for me. I got to spend the week at the Ringwood Police Station watch house, observing how things work there and getting tours of the station, the cells, and the nearby court. I got to sit in on court proceedings and hear explanations from the officers about their jobs and what they do, which gave me a much clearer and more realistic understanding of working in the police force and what to expect if I choose that pathway in the future. It also gave me a clearer idea of careers within the police force, such as investigators, inventory, or specialisations in specific crime fields.
While there were moments when there wasn’t much for me to do, I still valued the experience and the insight it gave me. The police men and women working there were busy and had safety precautions which limited what I could do, but it was still very interesting and exciting to be there.
I especially enjoyed watching the police station security cameras for the cells and people reporting crimes, as well as being shown the live traffic camera feed. That was my favourite part along with watching the court proceedings.
Overall, VIC POL work experience was a very positive experience, and I am very grateful I got the chance to go."

My Career Insights (Morrisby) Questionnaires
Year 9 students should now have completed their Morrisby profiling questionnaires in readiness for their upcoming one-on-one careers counselling workshops. For students who have not yet completed the questionnaires, there will be no further class time allocated, and students are encouraged to finalise these at home as soon as possible.
Lunchtime support sessions will also be available to ensure all students have completed the required questionnaires.
The week beginning Monday 9 June, students will participate in 1:1 Morrisby profiling sessions with a career's practitioner here at the College. These sessions will help students unpack and better understand their Morrisby results, including career interests, strengths, learning preferences, and possible pathway options. This process is designed to support students as they begin considering subject selections and future career directions.
Parents and carers are encouraged to check in with their child about their Morrisby profile and discuss any insights or questions that may arise from the sessions. These conversations can be extremely valuable in helping students reflect on their future aspirations and pathway possibilities.
Students’ appointment times will be reflected on their compass timetable once confirmed with Morrisby Career Practitioners.
Study a Certificate III in Music Performance at Scoresby Secondary College, (continued Year 2.)
Hi, my name is Jacob Long, and I am the 2nd Year Music Teacher of the Certificate III in Music Performance here at Scoresby along with taking student instrumental lessons for Drum Kit here.
I studied music at the University of Melbourne specializing in Jazz and Improvisation. I am a drummer and writer for a number of musical projects in the Melbourne music scene and have played shows in most major cities in Australia. I have also toured internationally with one of my bands playing 6 shows in Japan last year.
In 2nd year, students will develop their event planning skills, and experience what a day is like as a touring musician with our annual VET Music Tour. Students will also gain practical knowledge in how to prepare for performances, public speaking, effective ways to practice, working in a team, engaging audiences, and musical improvisation, all while having fun!
The Certificate III in Music Performance can provide students with pathways into further study and careers within the music and entertainment industries. Students may go on to study music performance, audio production, music industry, composition, teaching, or arts management at TAFE or university level. The course also helps students develop transferable skills including communication, collaboration, creativity, confidence, and self-management that are valuable across many career pathways.
VET Music Performance is also a scored VCE subject, meaning students can receive a study score that contributes directly to their ATAR. This gives students the opportunity to combine practical, hands-on learning with strong academic outcomes while pursuing their passion for music.
