CONCUSSION PROTOCOLS
To further support the health and wellbeing of our students, the Junior School will be updating its concussion management procedures for Thursday sport activities. Moving forward, if a student is involved in any head knock or head clash during sport, parents will be contacted and asked to collect their son so that he can be monitored closely at home and seek medical advice if required. Students displaying clear signs or symptoms of concussion will continue to receive immediate medical attention. These updated procedures reflect our commitment to prioritising student safety and ensuring that potential concussion symptoms are managed with appropriate care and caution.
MATHS OLYMPIAD
Well done to all the students who completed our first Maths Olympiad paper of 2026. Congratulations to Victor Belov and Avyan Moorjani from Year 5 and Jake Perich and James Rowlands from Year 6 who scored full marks!

YEAR 5 SCIENCE
Students in 5 Red recently investigated lung capacity through a hands-on Science experiment using water, straws and 2L bottles. Each student exhaled into a water-filled bottle submerged upside down in a tub of water, causing the water to be displaced by the air from their lungs. Students then measured the displaced water using measuring cylinders and marked the water level on the bottles to calculate their lung capacity. Through their investigation, students discovered an interesting connection between height and lung capacity, highlighting how scientific experiments can help us better understand the human body.
Thank you for your continued support of the Junior School.

Around the Grounds
Round 2 of the winter season was played in excellent conditions, allowing all teams to settle further into the rhythm of competition. It was pleasing to see the continued energy and commitment from our players, supported strongly by families across all venues.
Across the round, there were a number of positive performances. AFL continues to show encouraging development as players build confidence and understanding of the game, while football backed up its strong opening week with another round of competitive and well-structured performances. Rugby again faced some tough opposition, with each team showing resilience and a growing ability to compete across all areas of the game.
A sincere thank you to our families for your positive response in ensuring players are arriving on time to both training and fixtures. This has had a noticeable impact, allowing teams to prepare properly and setting a professional tone before games begin.
As we move further into the season, we would like to reinforce expectations around uniform. All playing gear is available through the College Uniform Shop, and students are only permitted to wear their football boots or joggers to and from games. Crocs and casual hoodies are not part of the St Pius X uniform and should not be worn. How we present ourselves at fixtures reflects the standards we uphold as a College, and we appreciate your continued support in maintaining these expectations.
We look forward to another strong round ahead as the season continues to build.
Winter Sport Results
Football
A quick reminder to families that players are expected to be in full SPX football uniform each week, including correct training and match attire.
We are delighted to share a fantastic early‑season milestone, all SPX Junior Football teams remain undefeated after the first two rounds, a new benchmark for the Junior Football program. While there is plenty of football still to be played, the way the students have approached the season with effort, discipline and teamwork has been outstanding.
A special mention to the 11A and 11B teams, both of whom produced impressive 2–1 come‑from‑behind victories against a strong Barker opposition. These matches highlighted the teams' resilience and belief, even when challenged.
Finally, a reminder for families to please check Clipboard carefully, as there are a number of byes across teams this week.

Rugby
Round two of the IPSHA season saw SPX compete in tough fixtures against Riverview and St Augustine's. While results didn't go our way, it was pleasing to see students arrive on time for fixtures and ready to compete, a big improvement on the week prior. Congratulations to the 11B's, many of which played their second game of rugby ever, who competed until the final whistle.
We look forward to this Saturday's fixtures, including an exciting matchup for the Preps who take on Nudgee College, touring from QLD.
Thank you to parents for your communication regarding trainings and fixtures. A reminder that full SPX rugby uniform is to be worn each week, including correct training and match attire.

AFL
Following a tough start in Round 1, the Junior AFL side responded impressively by using last week’s training sessions to focus on key areas for improvement. That work paid dividends on Saturday, with the students making the most of strong handball chains through the midfield to take control of the contest and record a well‑deserved win over Waverley.
There are still areas to continue developing, but the response, effort and style of play were very encouraging signs for the season ahead.
Onward and upward, Pius.
Chess
♟️ The chess season has begun with great excitement at St Pius X!
Our teams showed determination, teamwork, and excellent sportsmanship in the opening rounds of competition.
St Pius A hosted Aloysius A and achieved a fantastic result with 3 wins and 1 loss.
St Pius B hosted Aloysius C and, despite a challenging round, demonstrated persistence and resilience throughout all matches.
St Pius C hosted Redlands D and finished with an impressive 2–2 draw overall.
