Principal Message

Friday 26th June

As we reach the end of another busy and rewarding term, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the many achievements, experiences and opportunities that have made Term 2 such a wonderful success at Mitcham Primary School.

Our students have embraced every opportunity to learn, grow and challenge themselves. A highlight of the term has been our camp experiences, with both our Grade 2 and Grade 5/6 students enjoying memorable adventures that fostered independence, resilience, teamwork and lasting friendships. These experiences are an important part of school life and it was wonderful to see our students represent Mitcham Primary School so positively.

We have also celebrated outstanding sporting achievements, with multiple students progressing through various stages of Cross Country competition. Their determination, commitment and sportsmanship have made us incredibly proud.

Our Sustainability Team continued their important environmental work with a visit to Yarran Dheran for tree planting, demonstrating their commitment to caring for our local environment and helping create a more sustainable future.

Education Week provided a fantastic opportunity to showcase the learning taking place across our school, while our Book Fair once again fostered a love of reading and literacy among our students and families. Students also enjoyed a highly engaging LEGO incursion with LEGO Master Ryan, which inspired creativity, collaboration and problem-solving.

One of the highlights of the term has been seeing authentic learning translate into real outcomes for our students. As part of their persuasive writing unit, our Grade 5/6 students were challenged to identify an area of the school they believed could be improved and write a persuasive letter outlining their case. I was so excited to receive several well-researched, thoughtful and highly convincing letters advocating for a safer space for students to play cricket on our oval. The students presented compelling arguments about safety, participation and enjoyment, and their writing was so persuasive that we explored the concept further. I am wrapt to announce that work on a brand-new cricket pitch and cricket net will commence during the school holidays. It is a wonderful example of student voice making a genuine impact on our school environment. While we are sharing exciting news, I encourage families to keep reading further in this newsletter for a special announcement from our Parents and Friends Committee about another fantastic addition to our school, made possible through the generosity and fundraising efforts of our families.

We were thrilled to see our choir perform at the North East Region Concert at Hamer Hall. Performing on such a prestigious stage was a wonderful achievement and a testament to the hard work and dedication of our talented students and staff.

The strength of our school community has been evident throughout the term. We greatly appreciated the wonderful parent engagement at our Mother's Day Stall and Prep Mother's Day Morning, as well as the strong attendance at our Fathering Project Campfire Evening. These events remind us of the importance of connection and partnership in supporting our students' learning and wellbeing.

I would like to extend a huge thanks to the dedicated and hardworking staff of Mitcham Primary School. Their commitment, professionalism and care ensure that our students continue to thrive each and every day. I also thank our families and friends for their ongoing support, encouragement and partnership. Together, we create the strong and caring community that makes Mitcham Primary School such a special place.

Looking ahead, we are excited for another fantastic term of learning and fun. Term 3 will bring many exciting opportunities, including the Grade 3/4 Camp, the Grade 1–4 Swimming Program, the commencement of our formal transition program for our 2027 Prep students, a special performance by Mitch Tambo, Science Week celebrations and many more engaging learning experiences.

Today the students and staff had their SWPB reward of Pyjama Day and Crazy Hair Day.  The students fully embraced the day and some of the hair creations were fantastic.
