Year 11 Report

Rebecca Dawes

It has been a busy and productive few weeks for our Year 11 students as they have worked towards completing their Unit 1 studies. Students have been focused on final SACs and assessments across their VCE and VCE VM programs, demonstrating persistence and commitment as they wrapped up their first semester of senior secondary education.

Our VCE students have been showcasing the knowledge and skills they have developed throughout the semester. In English, students delivered oral presentations on current issues, presenting well-researched and thoughtful viewpoints to their peers. Students also completed their Unit 1 examinations across a range of subjects. It was pleasing to see students approach these exams with maturity and determination. They were focused, well-behaved and took the assessment process seriously, which is a credit to the cohort. Some of our Accelerated Learning Program (ALP) students also sat their first VCAA external assessment, completing the General Achievement Test (GAT) as part of their Unit 3 & 4 studies.

Our VCE VM students have recently completed their preserves project, producing a range of jams and sauces. This project required students to plan recipes, create packaging, promote their products and bring their ideas to life. The project was a great success, and students should be proud of the teamwork, creativity and effort they demonstrated throughout the process. It was wonderful to see the culmination of their planning and hard work.

To celebrate a successful semester, students participated in a wellbeing movie afternoon during the final week of term. This provided an opportunity for students to relax, connect with their peers and celebrate the hard work they have put in over the past six months. We are looking forward to continuing our focus on student wellbeing next term, with activities including Zumba and dodgeball planned for the Year 11 cohort.

Outside the classroom, a number of Year 11 students have continued to represent Woodmans Hill Secondary College in sport. Students have proudly competed in events including Senior Boys and Girls Badminton and Senior Boys Soccer. We thank all students who have represented the college and congratulate them on their efforts.

As we look ahead to next term, students will commence their Unit 2 subjects and continue building on the foundations established during Semester 1. We wish all Year 11 students and their families a safe, relaxing and enjoyable holiday break and look forward to seeing everyone refreshed and ready for another successful term.
