Year 11 Report

Dear parents/caregivers,

Term 3 has been an incredibly busy and significant term for our Year 11 students as they reach the final stages of their Preliminary courses and prepare to make the exciting transition into Year 12. Looking back at where they began at the start of the year, it has been wonderful to see the growth in confidence, independence and maturity across the cohort.

Student Representative Council

It is with great pride that we congratulate our newly appointed SRC Prefects, who will represent Mount Annan High School throughout the 2026–2027 leadership cycle. Students were presented with their blazers and ties at the induction ceremony, organised by SRC Coordinator Mr Murray, and were able to celebrate this achievement with their families over a light morning tea. The leadership team will be led by School Captains Sienna W and Elyse G, alongside Vice Captains Emma K, Lilly C and Juliette R. We are incredibly proud of all students who have stepped forward to take on leadership roles and have no doubt they will lead our school with compassion, respect and kindness.

Students also had the opportunity to celebrate the diversity of our school community during Multicultural Day. It was fantastic to see Year 11 enjoying the performances and activities throughout the day, with many students proudly wearing cultural dress and sharing aspects of their heritage with their peers.

Life Ready

As part of their mandatory course requirements, students have also participated in the Life Ready program this term. The program is designed to equip senior students with practical knowledge, skills and resources as they move towards greater independence and life beyond school. Students who attended the road safety component participated in the ‘BStreetSmart’ program, which provided a particularly powerful and memorable insight into road and vehicle safety. Further Life Ready activities will continue on 24 and 25 September, addressing topics including independence, mental health, healthy relationships, drugs, sexual health, contraception and digital footprints.

Our students have also continued working towards their Year 12 Formal fundraising goals. Many contributed to our final bake sale, whether by donating baked goods, helping to sell treats during their break or purchasing something delicious! We sincerely thank students and families for their generosity and support. While our bake sales have now concluded, students can still participate in the chocolate box fundraiser and can see either Year Advisor to organise collection of a box.

Year 12 Jackets

Planning for some of the exciting milestones ahead is also well underway. Year 12 jacket and jersey orders are currently being processed, and we thank everyone who submitted their orders on time. Looking even further ahead, the Year 12 Formal has been set for Tuesday 9 November 2027, with Graduation on Thursday 11 November 2027. While those dates may still seem a long way away, we suspect they will arrive much faster than any of us expect!

Of course, the major focus at the end of this term is the completion of the Preliminary Course. Students are currently undertaking their Preliminary examinations during the final two weeks of term. We know how much work has gone into reaching this point and wish every student the very best throughout their exams. Mr Carden and Mrs Anderson believe in you and are sending all of our collective brain power your way!

When students return in Term 4, they will officially begin their Year 12 HSC courses. This is an exciting milestone and one that brings with it new expectations and responsibilities. From the first day back on Tuesday 13 October, students should arrive prepared for their HSC studies with the correct equipment and in full school uniform. With the current Year 12 cohort undertaking their HSC examinations, our students will become the visible senior students of Mount Annan High School. We have high expectations that they will embrace this responsibility and continue to be positive and respected role models within our school community.

Before that next chapter begins, however, we strongly encourage students to use the upcoming two-week break to genuinely rest and recharge. Year 12 will undoubtedly bring periods of pressure and challenge alongside its many exciting experiences. Developing healthy ways to manage stress, maintaining connections with friends and family, and finding activities that support positive mental health can provide important buffers when things become difficult. The holidays are an opportunity to wind down, enjoy some well-earned time away from school and return ready to tackle their final year of high school.

Finally, we encourage families to remain connected with the school throughout Year 12. Important information and updates are communicated through several channels, including the school newsletter, the Mount Annan High School Facebook page and our cohort Google Classroom. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to ask their child to share relevant information posted to the cohort Classroom.

We are incredibly proud of how far this cohort has come throughout Year 11 and are excited to see them take this next step. We wish all students the very best for the remainder of their Preliminary examinations and hope our students and their families enjoy a safe, relaxing and well-deserved break.

We look forward to welcoming them back in Term 4 — as Year 12!
