From the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

I would like to wish our Year 12 cohort an enjoyable last week of school. This year group has shown great camaraderie and initiative throughout their senior years. We have celebrated their last week with a new initiative they have created which will be their legacy, the “School of Origin” shield. A day of competitive sport games where year 12 students who attended Mount Annan PS and Currans Hill PS competed against each other in netball and league tag. These games involved a curtain-raiser between Currans Hill and Mount Annan Public Schools current year 4 students competing in the same sports. After a BBQ lunch and their final assembly, year 12 undertook their final walk-through of the school on Wednesday afternoon and a picnic day on Thursday. I trust year 12 have now taken on board the feedback provided by their teachers after their trial HSC examinations and are in preparation mode for the upcoming final HSC exams. I have reminded them that the upcoming holidays are for study only and they should have a study plan for 8-9 hours per day practicing past HSC questions.

Last week our school underwent an External Validation process which is required by the Department of Education every four years. The process has our staff and community measure ourselves against the School Excellence Framework containing 14 elements and 51 themes in the domains of Learning, Teaching and Leading. We gathered evidence over the past five years to support our position and our journey. I am very pleased to report that we were validated at excelling in 13 of the 14 main criteria, an outstanding achievement for our school and community and one worth celebrating. In the 2015 external validation we weren't excelling in any of the elements and in the 2021 external validation we only excelled in one element. Our wonderful staff and our well developed and curated plan for our school and students has netted a tremendous result and great growth over the past 5 years.

The Mount Annan High School community continues to amaze me with events such as the massive cultural day where we celebrated our differences in song, dance, cultural dress, and food. With over 100 different nationalities represented here, it was wonderful to see the warm embrace of various cultures students enjoyed on the day culminating in the showcase of cultural songs and dances.

Term 4 Dates

Enjoy the spring break and please take the time to rest and revitalise. School resumes for all students on Tuesday 13 October which coincides with the first day of the HSC examination period.

Stay safe and take care.
