 21st Schools Sustainability Festival

On Thursday 3rd September, a group of ten Year 5/6 students represented Caulfield Junior College at the 21st Schools Sustainability Festival, which was held at St Kilda Town Hall. In the morning, they participated in workshops led by students from other schools, and conducted their own workshop, teaching other kids how to make cool bookmarks from old newspapers. There was an awards ceremony to acknowledge the contributions made by the participating schools, followed by a walk to the St Kilda Botanic Gardens, where we enjoyed a picnic lunch and an opportunity to meet some lovely reptiles. The afternoon workshops were led by community organisations such as Biik Bunjil, CERES, Zoos Victoria and Port Phillip EcoCentre. We finished off the day with a whole group photo and a relaxing walk back to the Town Hall. It was a fabulous experience and a pleasure to take this group of CJC students to the festival. They represented the school with pride and appreciated this unique learning opportunity.

• Neal: The outdoor workshops were my favourite.

• Ava: I enjoyed the seeds, leaves and tea workshop. We got to take home some seeds and a tea bag.

• Aliyah: My favourite part was getting to make our own things and take them home.

• Aaron: When we were outside and we collected some reptile encounter trading cards.

• Mila: I liked walking to the botanical gardens because it was really relaxing.

• Sophie: The bug hotel was my favourite because I hung it outside my house and I’m using it for Scouts SIA (Special Interest Area) badge. It was special to present our workshop.

• Camille: Touching the snake was fun and it doesn’t feel like other animals. I liked teaching the butterfly origami bookmarks.

• Seb: I really enjoyed the outdoor workshops and seeing the reptiles.

• Hari: I liked the whole experience. The morning tea was great, especially the apples!

• Liora: My favourite part of the day was teaching other schools how to make the bookmarks.

Purple Soup

On 7 September, students in 2F and 2G took part in an inclusive wheelchair sports session with Purple Soup as part of our PE and wellbeing learning. The session gave students an opportunity to experience wheelchair sport, learn about different ways people move and participate, and build understanding of access, inclusion and teamwork. The focus was on fun, participation and respectful curiosity, helping all students think about how games, spaces and friendships can be inclusive for everyone.

  I liked being in first place and my favourite part was when Tim was telling the class the rules of the walkers. I like that my class got to be in wheelchairs with me.

  I liked trying out all of the wheelchairs and walker frame and we learned about how all people can participate in sport.

  I liked doing the rely in the wheelchairs and I learnt that even if we have accidents we can still do sport and have fun.

  It was fun when we tried crutches, walkers and wheels chairs. We got a chance to try them all out and I got to use them all!

  We did racing with wheelchairs, crutches and walkers. We made up cheers and said them loud. I learnt how to use the wheelchairs.

  It was fun and I loved going fast in the wheelchair and having Selena as my teammate.

Visitors from New Caledonia

We had the pleasure to welcome a group of students from New Caledonia yesterday.  The 23 students from grade 5 and 6 were buddied with a student from CJC to participate in lessons and a series of fun activities.  A special assembly took place in the afternoon where speeches and presents were exchanged.  Thank you Mr. Ramano for organising this event, it was a great day!
