VM News
HEADSTART
Headstart began with a formal VM assembly, outlining the program and expectations, moving forward. Reflecting on the assembly, the photos are an insightful understanding of 'where students begin' and after 12 months, 'where they are now'. The VM team are continuously raising the expectations of VM students and look forward to working will all students who have chosen the VM pathway.
A part of Headstart, the VM teams focus, was centered around building relationships with Year 11 students who are new to the VM area, but also strengthen relationships with the 2024, Year 12 VM students. Year 12s spent a day in the city experiencing the indigenous influences in Australian culture and the impact that has in Melbourne. Students visited the NGV (Ian Potter Centre), which was a combination of controversial and traditional artforms followed by an Aboriginal walk, in which students were required to find artifacts of aboriginal history and culture. “I cant believe after 5 years, I finally get the interested by art” Michael Z Year 12 VM
Year 11 VM students spent the day at Chisholm Tafe. For most, this was their first interaction with adult learning and adult education spaces. Guest speaker, Chris Symons (Melbourne Jockey) was inspirational, with his main message was “there is no such thing, as being in the right place at the right time, but only steps and all steps gets us where we need to be”.

VM NUMERACY
During Headstart, VCE VM Numeracy classes were out and about in the school grounds looking for things in odd places. Students participated in a numeracy scavenger hunt where students needed to find the QR codes in different locations around the college, scan them, and solve the numeracy problem before returning to a designated location to get the next clue. The students had so much fun running, walking, interacting, and solving problems with one another.
On behalf of the VM team, we would like to thank all the students who turn up every day and continued to be challenged. Not only do we want to acknowledge students, but also parents, caregivers and the wider community. It really does take a village that makes the program as successful as it is.
We would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and look forward to another amazing year in 2024!
