Library News

Melanie Bowe  - Teacher Librarian

Welcome back to the Library in 2024. We have many exciting events planned for our students this year so we encourage everyone to visit the library for some reading, research and fun!

This year many of our students have been brought to the library in their English classes to borrow books. Please talk to your students about what they are reading and try to support them to read for set period of time before bed in the evening. Making reading a part of a routine will help them keep reading even when times get busy during their high school journey. English teachers will be incorporating a set time for silent reading in their classes so please ensure students are also bringing their reading books to class.

At The Gap, all students have access to free e-books and audiobooks as well as a range of resources to support them with their research. First of all, students need to have access to their Student Hub page which can be found here:

We suggest students make this their homepage or bookmark the site for easy access.

E-books and Audio Books

All students have access to the Wheelers e-platform for e-books and audiobooks. You can find the link to Wheelers on the student homepage. Student’s login is just their Mis ID (eg. Msmit9) and the password is the library. You can also download the e-platform app from the app store, find our school, and log in once for continued access to e-books and audio books on your devices.

Research and Referencing for Assignment

On the student homepage, there are a number of links to support students with their research and referencing needs:

  • Gale Database: a great place to start searching. Very student-friendly with links to many reference texts and academic articles
  • State Library: Become a member (it’s free) and have access to the many databases State Library subscribes to. Contains many academic journal articles and e-books perfect for assessment.
  • Research Skills: This page contains websites to help with research as well as links to many free databases to find more articles.
  • QUT CiteWrite: This website will help students understand the different ways to reference.

If your students ever need help with finding resources for reading, researching or referencing please tell them to come down to the library where we will always provide support.

We look forward to seeing you in the library this term.

Happy Chinese New Year!

Languages Department

The 10th of February marks the start of the Year of Dragon! We had some activities with our students in Chinese classrooms. They did activities such as writing calligraphy, writing spring couplets, making red packets, making window flowers, and drawing new year mascot etc. Students had a lot of fun and we wish everyone a happy new year!
