Year 6 Visual Art students are currently working on the unit, “Art of the Selfie” which is based on self-portraiture. They have been learning about proportions of the face and are developing a number of different self-portraits using a range of media, the first of which has been a continuous line drawing of their face using pen and watercolour.
As part of their unit, “The Edge” which is based on the intersection of the natural and built environment, Year 10 students visited Enoggera Creek for one of their lessons in Week 2. Whilst there, they were tasked with taking a number of photographs which highlighted the elements and principles of design. These will be used to inform several experimental mixed media artworks which will see students draw inspiration from the textures, colours and shapes found in nature.
We are thrilled to have been able to introduce VET into the Arts curriculum at the college this year and our first group of Year 11 and 12 students will gain a VET qualification on completion of a Certificate II or III in Visual Art. Under the guidance of Mr Phillipe Sanders-Agius who we welcome to the Visual Art team this year, students will be working across a number of different units including Printmaking, Creative Glass Skills (Glass slumping and fusing and Stained Glass), Photography, Ceramics and Mural Painting. Over the past two weeks, they have been developing their drawing skills and the Certificate II students will extend these skills into designing a repeat-pattern which will be lino-printed onto fabric used in the construction of a cushion and the Certificate III students will be creating a screenprint on a T-shirt. We thank Mrs Robyn Gooley, VET Program leader for her expertise in enabling us to implement these courses in 2024.
