Abbey Museum Excursion

On Monday 29 January, the Year 11 Ancient History class embarked on an excursion to the Abbey Museum in Caboolture. The excursion aimed to help further our studies in the realm of Archaeology, which we are studying this term. With a specific focus on Roman archaeology, we arrived at the museum and were greeted by the museum staff. After looking around the museum, which contained a variety of fascinating artifacts, we went to the simulated archaeological dig. Here we learnt the basics of archaeology and how we were to find the artefacts lurking in the ground. After a plethora of digging, sifting and recording the findings, the final image was revealed; a small Roman house, that seemed to have been pillaged, evident through the crime scene left behind. After that, we furthered our knowledge of Roman weaponry and armour through the recreations provided for us, which included swords, shields and armour. Overall, the excursion was extremely enjoyable and was directly related to our studies, making the experience highly educational and useful for all the boys.
