Shrove Tuesday

Smiles were beaming from ear to ear when the Foundation and Year 1 students were surprised with some yummy pancakes to acknowledge Shove Tuesday. After learning about the significance of the special day, the students created their very own pancake face and attempted to spell the word 'pancake'! Well done Foundation!

Year 1

In Art last Friday, we made a Lunar New Year Tree to help celebrate this wonderful festival. This year the Lunar New Year runs from February 10 to February 24. 2024 is the Year of the Dragon. Dragons have a special significance in China. They are the only animal of the zodiac that is mythical, and the creature largely symbolizes luck, strength, ambition and charm.

In Writing, we wrote a wish for the 2024 year, and put it inside the red envelopes - instead of money!! We'll open them at the end of the year to see if our wishes came true. Then we used pink and red paper to make blossoms and lanterns for the tree. In China, the red lanterns are meant to help scare away the monster called Nian. You can see our tree in the front window near the entrance.

Year 2/3

Hello Wonderful Families,

This week we celebrated Shrove Tuesday and went for an outing to the Church. In class, we wrote about how we would decorate pancakes with delicious toppings to celebrate the speical day. We began Lent and talked about things we might give up during this time. The class also made Valentine’s Day cards for a friend or family member who they care for. It was a pleasure to meet all the families at Parent Teacher Interviews. Thank you for all coming.

Year 3/4

Incursion - All about the Human Body! From Mad About Science.

We had an incursion from Mad About Science. We got orbeez from Sharyn. We all had fun.

Fun Facts The kidney is at the back of your body. The rib cage protects your heart. The organs are eyes, skin, brain, kidneys, heart, stomach, liver and lungs. The heart pumps the blood so that we can live. The skull protects your brain. By Eva and Olivia.

Today a girl named Sharyn came to our school to teach us about the Human Body.

The kidneys are at the back of your body. We made orbeez and they got really big! Our organs are eyes, skin, brain, kidneys, heart, stomach, liver and lungs. Blood carries oxygen round our body. By Arvin and Georgia.

Today Year 2/3, 3/4, and 4/5 came together in the multipurpose room for an incursion, to listen to Sharyn from Mad about Science, speak about the Human Body! We learnt to take our pulse inside our wrist. Inside our cells are atoms that are very small. When it is dark the brain tells the eye to open a little bit. When it’s day the brain tells the eye to close a little bit. The organs are the eyes, skin, brain, kidneys, heart, stomach, liver and lungs.  By Mia and Austin

At Sacred Heart we had an incursion and we met Sharyn from Mad about Science. We learnt a lot of things from Sharyn because there are a lot of things about the Human Body. It was so fun, we didn’t even know the time was passing so quickly. We learnt that if you mix cabbage water with liquids, it changes into different colours and it might even explode if you put them all together. Sharyn taught us that our pulse is our heart pumping and we could feel it. By Katalina and Sai.

Year 4/5  - Shrove Tuesday

Pancake Tuesday is also known as Shrove Tuesday. It is a time of the year when you get to sit back, relax and make some delicious pancakes. The reason why we eat pancakes on this Tuesday is because it is the last day before Lent starts and we can use up all the good food ingredients. And it is the day before Ash Wednesday.   Jasmine

On Tuesday we celebrated Pancake Tuesday also known as Shrove Tuesday in the Bible. It’s also the day before Ash Wednesday and was celebrated as a feast in the olden days. We also had some tasty and mouth-watering pancakes.   Nirav

Pancake Tuesday or Shrove Tuesday is when people get all their rich foods and make and eat pancakes. This day at school, we made pancakes and they were amazing because of the yummy toppings. Shrove Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent. Brenton

On Tuesday we had Shrove Tuesday, also known as Pancake Tuesday. On that day, we got to eat pancakes because in the olden days, people mixed all the rich foods that were left in their house together, to make pancakes. Because after this, from Ash Wednesday, they had to fast.   Allie

This week on Tuesday we had pancakes - yes, I said pancakes! We had so many yummy toppings. There was strawberries and raspberries, honey and some awesome reddish purplish jam! Jasmine bought some pancakes too. Marie told us to come up to the table and we could have any of these delicious, yummy pancakes! It was my turn and my friends to choose what toppings we wanted - Allie wanted the jam, honey and fruits - Jasmine got honey and the fruits and I just got the honey.. It was soooo good and yummy and soft! I wish we could have pancakes everyday!!   Alisha

Year 5/6

Inquiry ~ How Does My Body Work

A brilliant incursion this week gave the students an opportunity to think about all the things that make up our body, from gastric juices, acids and bases, to heart beats, diaphrams and the many systems that are situated inside us all; digestive, circulatory, nervous and respiratory systems that do so much work!

Students participated in experiments to highlight the need to understand the human body better. Learnings and questions taken from this will form the basis of student research, culminating in a Year 3-6 expo at the end of the term! Exciting times ahead.

TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More)

One of our mantras this year is about teamwork. This was put on display this week as the senior students helped prepare for the Welcome Mass, where the theme and story of the Good Samaritan will be ever present.

Lunchtime Clubs

Roery and Bhavin were out on the hustings today, asking students what they would like to see as the first Lunchtime Club of the year. Lego, MInecraft and Roblox were the three choices students had to vote on. Voting has now closed,  with the result being announced at next Monday's assembly. Well done Roery and Bhavin for organising, yet another example of making STUDENT VOICE a priority in 2024!
