Dear Sacred Heart Community

Prayer

Congratulations to our School Captains for 2024

As announced at this week's Monday student assembly, our School Captains for 2024 are Harper Tran and Jacob Galvin-King and Vice Captains are Onella Ambagahage and Ishe Chigwedere-Raward. I would like to congratulate all our Year Six students for the maturity they showed during and after the process of electing our school leaders.

Jacob: "I am very excited to be school captain. I am happy for the other Year Six people who were chosen as well. I am looking forward to doing my best"

Harper: "It was very surprising at first but I am really happy to be school captain. I will try my best to be the best role model I can be"

Onella: "When Marty announced the roles I was shocked that I got vice captain, but I was also very excited about it. I think I am ready to be a great school leader"

Ishe: "I feel happy and surprised that I got the role because there was a lot of people who went for the role and I got one of the four positions. I want to say to the other people who didn't get a role as captain to not be upset and be proud of themselves"

Welcome to our New Students

A big welcome to our two new students in Year One, Imogen and Bruno. We are so happy that you have joined our school. On behalf of our school community I hope you feel after just three weeks, a real sense of belonging and warm connection with our students.

Parents and Friend's News

We have our first meeting this Tuesday 20th February at 9.00am in the staffroom. All parents are warmly invited to attend, whether you have been a past member or like our new parents of our Foundation Year students, you would like to participate for the first time. Whilst we will focus on the events for Term One, we are looking for social and fundraising ideas for the rest of the 2024 school year. Being involved in our Parents and Friends group is a great way of making connections with other parents within our school community.

"Opening Of The School Year" Mass

Our first whole school celebration for 2024 takes place on Wednesday 28th February at 6.00pm with our Opening of the School Year Mass. This is a very special event where we welcome our new Foundation Year students, present our Year Six students with their graduation tops and acknowledge our Year Six student leaders with the presentation of their badges. We would love to see as many families as possible in attendance, as we come together to pray for a successful year for our school community. Kate has more details in her part of this newsletter.

Enrolments Foundation Class 2025

Enrolments for our 2025 Foundation class officially open on Wednesday 13th March. Current families with a sibling commencing school in 2025 are asked to make contact with Cristina or myself before this date to ensure a position for 2025 (I have already conducted ten tours late last year and so far this year for students commencing school in 2025).

NAPLAN

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual assessment for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9.

NAPLAN results allow parents/carers and educators to see how students are progressing in literacy and numeracy over time – individually, as part of their school community, and against national standards.

NAPLAN tests are one aspect of each school’s assessment and reporting process and do not replace the extensive, ongoing assessments made by teachers about each student’s performance. Each teacher will have the best insight into their students’ educational progress.

Schools are given a window of time to have the NAPALN tests conducted. This year that window opens on Wednesday 13th March and closes on Monday 25th March. In the coming week we will let parents of our students in Year Three and Year Five know the dates for the testing at our school.

Whole School Assemblies

Whole school assemblies are a much anticipated event within our school year, as parents get a chance to see what is happening in the classroom. Assemblies over the post Covid period have been very popular with parents and other family members The dates for this term's assemblies can be found on the "Dates to Remember" page of the newsletter.

Yours Sincerely

Mark
