Return to School

We could not have been happier with how our students have returned to school. Our teachers have done a fantastic job at setting up their classrooms to make them a safe and vibrant learning environment.

As you would expect, the focus has been on establishing clear expectations and routines. Also, building relationships with both students and parents has and will continue to be a high priority.

Annual privacy reminder for our school community

I encourage everyone to the read the attached policy. This is very relevant at this moment in time and it is important is clear on the expectations regarding the taking of photos at school events.  An Annual Collection policy has been provided electronically to every family. Our school collects and uses student and parent personal information for standard school functions or where permitted by law, as stated in the Schools’ Privacy Policy and the Schools’ Privacy Collection Notice.

Our Photographing, Filming and Recording Students Policy (click here to read policy), describes how we collect and use photographs, video and recordings of students. The policy also explains when parent consent is required and how it can be provided and withdrawn. We ask parents to also review the guidance we provide on how we use Microsoft 365/Google Workspace for Education safely at the school and what parents can do to further protect their child’s information. If after reviewing the guidance, you have any questions or concerns regarding your child using Microsoft 365/Google Workspace for Education, please contact the school.

Mobile Phone Policy

If a student chooses to bring a mobile phone to school, they are required to hand it into their teacher at the start of the day. This will then be returned to them at the end of the day.

I have had a number of enquires regarding 'smart watches' (ability to send and receive messages/make and receive phone calls). If the watch contains a SIM card and has a mobile network, it also needs to be handed to your child's teacher. If it does not contain a SIM card and only has blue tooth capabilities, this does not fall under the current policy and is OK for your child to wear.

This policy will be reviewed by our school council Education committee this month. I will keep you updated with any changes.

Student Leadership Badge Presentation Assembly

It was exciting to be able to present our 2024 Grade 6 student leaders with their leadership badges at our school assembly last Friday.

On Monday, I will be attending with our School Captains (Mackenzie and Harper) and SRC Leaders (Lexi and Brianna), a student leadership conference in the city. This will be a fantastic opportunity for them to meet with other student leaders from around the state and learn some important leadership skills.

Meet the Teacher Interviews (Grade 1-6 parents)

Next Monday and Wednesday we have our Meet the Teacher Interviews. This will be an excellent opportunity for parents to share pertinent information with their child's teacher. If you have not already, please make sure you have made your interview booking on Compass and completed the parent questionnaire that was Dojo'd out last week.

Foundation BBQ

On Tuesday afternoon (5-6pm), we will be hosting our annual Foundation BBQ. This will be a valuable opportunity for our Foundation families to build relationships with each other and feel better connected to our school. We look forward to welcoming them on Tuesday.

Term 1 School Priorities

Across the year, I will make sure that I communicate what our whole school priorities will be. Our prime intent at Langwarrin Primary School is to have the highest expectations with learning and behaviour. We achieved so much as a school last year and we need to remain highly focused on ensuring we continue to achieve the best possible results.

Literacy Focus

Our grade level teams (PLCs), we will be focusing on reading fluency and how this supports reading comprehension.

Numeracy Focus

In Numeracy, our PLCs will be focusing on Number fluency and engaging with a Daily Review Process with their students in this area.

Wellbeing Focus

Our teachers are setting clear expectations with student behaviour and classroom routines. Teachers will be incorporating Berry St strategies into their classroom routines.

Curriculum Day (19th February)

As communicated earlier in the week, we have a student free day on Monday 19th February. On this day all staff will be engaged in a professional learning session led by Real Schools. We are beginning a 3 year partnership with Real Schools, where the focus will be on further enhancing our school culture and building capabilities of staff with engaging in restorative practices with students.

I am very excited about the year ahead and I look forward to your continued support and involvement. Langy Park is a great school and what makes it that way are the people who are in it!

Cheers,

Richard
