Principal's Report

Semester 1 Complete
As we reach the end of Semester 1, it’s a great time to reflect on the many achievements and milestones our school community has shared over the past two terms.
We’ve seen tremendous growth in our students, both academically and socially. Through our mid-year assessment reviews, we are proud of the progress students have made and the effort they’ve put into their learning.
A major milestone this semester was the completion of our School Review, which has helped set a clear strategic direction for the next four years. Alongside this, we have made strong progress in the introduction of School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) and re-established student voice at MPS through the return of our school-wide Junior School Council.
We also began implementing the Mental Health in Primary Schools initiative, led by Sue Erwin, which has already created valuable opportunities for student wellbeing and support.
Our Foundation students have made a seamless start to school life, settling in confidently and already achieving great things.
We’ve also celebrated some fantastic sporting achievements, including our students winning the Boys District Futsal Tournament. Our community participated in a wide range of community events such as the Hot Potato Band performance, our PFA organised Colour Run, Parent Open Morning, Walk to School Day, and the much-loved Winter Solstice.
This term also saw our first school camp for the year, with our Grade 3/4 students enjoying a wonderful experience at Camp Wyuna.
Looking ahead to Semester 2, there’s plenty to be excited about, including:
- Prep 101 Days of School Celebration
- Children’s Book Week
- Year 5/6 Camp to Portsea
- House Orienteering
- 2026 Foundation Transition Program
- Grade 1/2 Camp to PGL
- Writer’s Festival
- Billy Cart Races
- Grade 6 Graduation
We would like to thank all of our parents and families for your ongoing support throughout the first half of the year. We look forward to another exciting and successful semester ahead.
Staffing Update
We would like to share a staffing update with our school community.
Lisa Pickles has transitioned into the STEM teaching role, previously held by Angela Holdaway. Lisa has shown a strong passion for science and enthusiasm for the position, and we are excited to see her bring her energy and expertise to this space.
To support this change, we’re pleased to announce that Sam Izzo will be joining our Foundation team. Sam worked in Foundation last year and already knows many of our students, making her a wonderful fit for the role.
We’re thrilled to have both Lisa and Sam stepping into these roles and look forward to the positive impact they will continue to have across the school.
Winter Solstice
Our Winter Solstice was an amazing night and continues to be one of the highlights of the school calendar. We were lucky to have perfect weather, which made the evening even more enjoyable for families, students and staff.
It was fantastic to see the incredible artwork created by our students on display and to enjoy the musical performances that showcased the talents of some of our musicians.
Thank you to David for his hard work organising the event, Felicity for coordinating the beautiful art show, and Lisa for her generous support behind the scenes. We also extend our thanks to all of our parent volunteers, with a special mention to Jeremy and Elissa for their work preparing and maintaining the bonfire.
It was a truly memorable evening that brought our community together in a celebration of light, creativity and connection.
Attendance
As part of our School Strategic Plan, we’re aiming to reduce student absences to an average of fewer than 17 days per student each year.
Regular attendance supports learning and wellbeing. Missing 20 days a year adds up to over a full year of school missed by Year 12.
So far this year, Macedon Primary students have missed 1,630 days – an average of 6.97 days per student.
Thank you for supporting regular attendance. Every day counts!
2026 Foundation Enrolments
We have officially begun the process for 2026 Foundation enrolments at Macedon Primary School.
We are currently holding regular school tours for prospective families, which can be booked via our school website. These tours are a great opportunity to see our school in action and learn more about what we offer.
If you are planning to enrol your child or know someone who is considering Macedon Primary for 2026, please encourage them to book a tour and attend the information night. We look forward to welcoming our next group of Foundation families.
Warm regards,
Andrew Bloomfield
