Religious Education

Dear Parents and Families
Thank you to our children for embracing the many learning opportunities offered this term to further develop their knowledge, understanding and skills across a range of learning areas, interests and the ongoing spiritual development as a person. Parents, as you read through your child's report this week, you should be very proud of your child's growth and development. We certainly are. To see our preppies learning to read, count and add numbers for the first time is a delight you never get tired of. As is seeing older students taking risks and trying something new for the first time, whether it be reading in front of the school, putting their hand up to answer a question or standing up for something they see that isn't right. We are super proud of all of our students.
Embracing and accepting new school routines is something we are very proud of our students for doing. We are seeing great settlement across the school and know this helps students to be ready to learn. Student learning is at the heart of what we do and is what gives us great joy. Please celebrate with your child their achievements this semester.
The events around the world over the past few weeks highlight the need for being open to dialogue. As a Catholic School, we continually endeavour to engage in dialogue with the aim to re-contextualise faith and belief. The process of re-contextualisation is one where we seek to find meaning in the Catholic faith in the world today. To be tolerant of each other's differences is an expectation we have of our students and is taught in the hope that this continues into adulthood.
It is through engaging with diversity and difference that allows for deepening of one’s own belief and understanding. When we look around at our world and reflect on conflicts and unrest between nations, it highlights the importance of our ongoing mission as Catholic Schools to know our Catholic Identity and discover ways we can seek out opportunities to offer hospitality and dialogue.
I wonder how we can be more open to dialogue in our own homes and school community? I wonder how we can be examples of Jesus' love for one another? I wonder how we can show mercy and compassion to those in need? These are good questions to ponder as we go on our mid-year break.
Mass of Compassion ~ St Vincent De Paul Winter Appeal
A great example of showing Jesus' love and compassion was celebrating the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus last Friday with St Brendan's. Our grade 3-6 students celebrated a Mass of Compassion with grade 3-6 students from St Brendan's in solidarity with St Vincent De Paul's Shepparton Winter Appeal. Through the generosity of our school communities, we donated well over a thousand food items to charity. These will go a long way to help fill the hungry bellies of many children and families this winter. Celie Kelly, a St Vinnie's representative, congratulated all who contributed and was overwhelmed by our school's generosity. Thank you to all those who gave generously.

To St. Luke's Families.
Thank you so much for all the groceries that you so generously donated to St Vincent de Paul's Assistance Centre. What a magnificent effort! Our pantry is full and we will be able to help lots of people with food hampers throughout the coming months.

Grade P-2 Liturgy ~ God's Creation
On Thursday 19th June our grade P-2 students celebrated a liturgy with Fr Adi in the school auditorium. The focus was 'Celebrating God's Creation'. Students had the opportunity to share and give thanks to God for their favourite animals and living things. Each class planted a seed of which they will care for and watch grow. Thank you to our teachers and Fr Adi for celebrating with us.
Grade 1 Bangarang Cultural Centre Excursion
On Monday 23rd June our grade 1 students visited the Bangarang Cultural Centre in Shepparton. As part of their Indigenous Culture and History topic, the grade one students listened to Marlene Atkinson share her wisdom and insights of the local Yorta Yorta culture through the many dioramas and artefacts on display at the Bangarang Cultural Centre. These experiences go a long way to helping our students understand the rich heritage of our local indigenous community.

We continue to pray for our Sacramental candidates for 2025. The Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist are being celebrated on 15-17th August.
