Community Team Initiatives – Term 2 Highlights
June has been a dynamic and inspiring month for our Community Team at Melton Secondary College, with three significant initiatives making a powerful impact across our school. These programs focused on fostering inclusion, respect, and cultural understanding within our learning environment.
Bigger Than This – Anti-Racism Workshops
Staff from across MSC participated in the Bigger Than This (BTT) Anti-Racism Program, a professional development initiative that brings together educators, cultural workers, wellbeing staff, and school leaders to build critical racial consciousness in schools. Through shared dialogue and collaborative learning, participants explored how to create more inclusive and equitable spaces for all students.
‘I Belong’ Workshops with Eric Agyeman
Our Year 7, 8, and 9 students were privileged to take part in the ‘I Belong’ Keynote and Anti-Bullying Workshops led by speaker and youth advocate Eric Agyeman. These interactive sessions focused on the power of words, the effects of bullying, and the importance of empathy and inclusion. Students were encouraged to reflect on their roles in creating a school culture rooted in respect, belonging, and unity.
NAIDOC Week Celebrations
To mark NAIDOC Week, our Koori students collaborated to produce a meaningful and educational video shared with the school community. The video explored the significance of NAIDOC Week, its 50-year history, and this year’s theme: “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy.” The theme honored both the 50th anniversary of NAIDOC and 50 years of Melton Secondary College, highlighting the role of young leaders and the legacy of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
We’re proud of the meaningful work our community team continues to lead, and we look forward to building this momentum in the next term.
