CAPTAIN'S CORNER

SENIOR CAPTAIN
With SACs bombarding the senior school and exams looming closer every day, breaks have been long awaited, and the McKinnon community has not disappointed. Science Week was a huge hit, ranging from imploding watermelons (did you guess 201?!) to an intensive Science Trivia of students against teachers (go students!).
Followed by Book Week where the highly anticipated dress up day had everyone in smiles and laughs, along with the adorable competition where we “guessed the teacher reading” from pictures of teachers reading as a child. It’s been a whirlwind of laughter and learning, the things that McKinnon Magic has never failed to achieve, thank you to everyone involved!
The final stretch for the Year 12s has come, with less than two months to go for us, it’s time to finish up the last SAC, last revision lecture and last time you hear your teacher say “shut your Chromebook”, and dive into exam mode entering, arguably, the most stressful time of your life academically. My advice to my fellow peers (and their parents!) is simple. Breathe. Take a walk, take a break, talk to your friends, the last thing you want to do is crash out and burn just before those exams come around. As the great Mr Graham once said, “laughing, exercise and music” is key for a happy, and healthy mindset, something we all undoubtedly need during this period.
I wish everyone the best of luck for their studies, and remind everyone that to succeed, you need to make space in your study to breathe.
Thank you!
And best of luck McKinnon! :)

JUNIOR CAPTAIN
Term 3 has felt like a flash and it’s hard to believe we have less than a month left before it ends. The start of the term seemed slow at first but now the weeks are racing by. By this stage, most of us have settled into our classes, know our teachers well, and are now in the rhythm of things. For many students, this part of the year is about keeping up with the steady flow of work.
One of the biggest highlights for me this term has been Year 9 camp! Even though the food wasn’t the best, the activities were really fun and slightly different from other camps. From team challenges to partner activities, camp helped us bond with new people and build confidence in different ways. My favourite activities were probably the giant swing and the leap of faith. The giant swing allowed two people to go at once instead of one and so did the leap of faith. It was also a great break from schoolwork, and most of us came back with new memories and experiences that we won’t forget.
Looking ahead, there are also exciting events coming up, such as the Winter Concert which will take place tonight. This gives students a chance to show their talents in music and perform in different bands together, while the rest of the school community comes together to enjoy it. Having events like the concert makes Term 3 feel more balanced, giving us something to look forward to while still working hard on assignments and tests.
In the end, being at this stage of Term 3 is about staying motivated, enjoying the highlights like camp and concerts and pushing forward to finish the term strong.
