Performing Arts - Music
Grade Prep
This term, Prep students performed their Little Red Riding Hood scenes, showcasing their growing confidence to perform to an audience. They showed how the characters used expressive skills such as voice, facial expressions, and movement, and reflected on their own performances after viewing them in class. Students have now begun their Dance unit, where they are learning to move different parts of their bodies in creative ways. They have also enjoyed copying and rehearsing a short movement sequence to perform for their classmates. Great work Preps!
Grade 1
Our Grade 1 students have continued to develop their understanding of some key music notes and introduced these notes on the Staff that they used to learn and play songs on the Glockenspiels and Keyboards. The focus on learning these songs is for them to see the connection of notes written on the Staff are played on these instruments including how they relate to higher and lower pitch when these notes are placed higher or lower on the Staff.
The students also had an opportunity to play the Ukulele and experiment with different strumming patterns and play some chords by pressing down on different strings of the instrument.
Grade 2
This term, Grade 2 students performed their scripts Coco Chanel and David Attenborough from the Little People, Big Dreams series. They showed their ability to use voice, movement, and expression to bring their characters to life. After their performances, students reflected on their work and gave thoughtful feedback, discussing what they enjoyed in their own performances as well as those of their peers.
Students have also begun their Dance unit. They learned a range of basic dance moves and explored how to arrange movement to create short dance sequences. They rehearsed and performed a class dance routine, building confidence, coordination and teamwork skills. Well done, Grade 2’s!
Grade 3
This term our Grade 3 students continued to build up their knowledge of music notation. They focused on the notes on the Staff and the relationship of those notes on instruments such as the Keyboard to follow and play a song and to also create their own short composition. The students also had an opportunity to use the Bucket Drums with their music notation knowledge. It was also a chance for them to follow different beats and patterns with a backing track not just individually but also as a class to develop their skills in keeping in time and working together with their peers.

Grade 6 Band
The Grade 6 Band is in the final stages of rehearsals for the ‘School of Rock’ day next week at Melrose Receptions. This is a fantastic day when primary and secondary schools within our region come together for a music celebration. Each school gets the opportunity to perform in front of their peers, showcase their talents and experience a moment of becoming rock stars!
This year our band will be joined by the Grade 2/3 choir which will also be very exciting and a great experience for them.
In my absence, the band is working with Jayden, who is a fantastic musician and currently works with music students at other schools whilst completing his teaching degree.
Thank you, Jayden, for guiding the band through these rehearsals and we look forward to hearing how the experience goes!
