Physical Education

An exciting visit: On Monday 16th June we hosted some AFLW Essendon players at our school for part of our morning. Students enjoyed a Q&A session in the library followed by some skills practise on the oval. It was exciting, informative and inspiring! So great to have an extra play on the oval with some footy experts too. Well done to all of our students on your engagement in this session. The players noted some great enthusiasm and talent amongst our students! We are very grateful to AFL Victoria for giving us this opportunity.
We also had Harrison, an AFL rep, visit our school this week to join our students for a kick of the footy on the oval during afternoon recess and to promote an AFL clinic happening in Castlemaine at the Camp Reserve in theses school holidays – look out for this in this edition of the newsletter!
Our Grade F-2 students enjoyed our mini dance unit this term, focusing on following instructions and moving in time with the beat as we learnt different dances. Stay tuned for a performance from our amazing F/1/2 dancers next term! Students have also been working on developing some of their fundamental motor skills including striking, throwing, catching, running, jumping and kicking through skill drills as well as obstacle courses and team relays. We finished the term by enjoying a fun class game this week.
Our Grade 3-6 students have been enjoying some t ball, developing their striking, running and team work skills. It is such a fun and fast paced game where the students not only focus on their own actions but learn about the importance of communication with team mates! Over the past few weeks, students have been working collaboratively in small groups to create, plan and run a drill or relay that incorporates practising different fundamental motor skills. Students have enjoyed running these, showcasing their creations and teaching their classmates. This week we concluded these and enjoyed playing a whole class game to conclude the term.
It has been rewarding observing the developing confidence and skills across F-6 students over the course of this semester, as well as the growth of student enjoyment in participating in physical activity alongside peers! Similarly, it has been wonderful hearing the students reflect on their growing health knowledge and understandings over the past few weeks. Well done students. Looking forward to more learning, fun and fitness next term. Enjoy a well-earned break over the school holidays!
State Cross Country Event – We wish Clancy in Grade 4 all the very best for his run at this event on Thursday 24th July. Congratulations on reaching this stage and enjoy the experience!
