Kitchen Garden Update

In Weeks 5 and 6, the Year 4 classes worked together to cook delicious veggie burgers. They split into small groups: three made the patties, one created a ‘Salad of their Imagination’, another baked fruit muffins, and the remaining groups prepared chips in the air fryer and chopped leftover tomatoes and fruit to cook and preserve for later in the term.

After cooking, students gathered around the tables to share the food, passing around buns, condiments, and salad to build their own burgers. We had important discussions about table etiquette and how to fairly share the food and the leftovers. We also reviewed how to set the tables, pack away the dirty dishes, and clean up after eating.

During garden sessions, students rotated through our usual activities: composting, caring for the chickens, going on environmental walks, and collecting pests. They also planted beans in the greenhouse and in glass jars, allowing them to observe the propagation process. The jars are now sitting on classroom windowsills in 4J and 4B, where students can watch the beans grow day by day.

A huge thank you to all the parents who generously gave their time to help during our kitchen sessions. Your support is invaluable—we couldn’t run the program without you!

Thanks also to Immy from Little Sister Bakery for supplying the delicious vegan burger buns.
