Literacy – Wrapping Up The Grandest Bookshop in the World
Over the past fortnight, students have completed Amelia Mellor’s The Grandest Bookshop in the World. To finish our unit, we held thoughtful discussions about the book’s deeper themes, morals and global lessons. Students reflected on the author’s message about family, resilience and the power of imagination, making strong connections between the story and real-world values. With this text as inspiration, students are now turning their attention to developing their own writing, drawing on the techniques and lessons explored throughout the novel.
Mathematics – Decimals in Action
Our Mathematics focus has shifted from fractions to decimals. Students have been exploring place value, renaming and regrouping, building a strong foundation for working with decimals beyond whole numbers. They have practised comparing, ordering and manipulating decimals, developing flexible strategies for solving problems. Through hands-on tasks and real-world examples, students are beginning to see the strong link between fractions and decimals, deepening their understanding of both.
Humanities – Geography: Animals of Asia
In Humanities, we’ve extended our geography focus from North America to Asia. Students have been introduced to the diverse landscapes and unique wildlife of the continent, learning fascinating facts about animals such as the fire salamander, snow leopard and the lynx. They have researched how these animals survive in their environments and are continuing to create fact files and presentations to showcase their learning.
Wellbeing – Concerns, Gratitude and Empathy
This fortnight in Wellbeing, students have focused on acknowledging not only their own concerns but also the concerns of others. Through discussions and activities, they practised showing gratitude and empathy, recognising how important it is to listen, support and care for those around them. These skills are helping students strengthen positive relationships and build a supportive classroom community.
