Reading
In Reading, the Foundation cohort has been learning about chunking and identifying the number of syllables in a word. The Foundation students have been diligent in finding words that have two to three syllables as they enjoy their readings at the school library. Students have been learning what vowels are and why they are important when chunking a word. They have been clapping the syllables as they say the words during reading.

Writing
In writing, the Foundation cohort have been learning about information texts. Students have been using the National Geographic Kids website to research about their favourite animals. They have been identifying their animals’ physical characteristics, diet, habitat, and even discovered some fun facts! Foundation students have also been identifying other examples of information reports they have seen in books such as posters teaching them about parts of a lion.

Maths
This fortnight in Mathematics, Foundation students finished their unit on place value. Students worked hard demonstrating everything they learned about calculating and representing the ones and tens in numbers. The Foundation cohort has also begun their unit on finance. Students have been familiarising themselves with the Australian gold coins and identifying situations when you need to use money.

Inquiry
As the Foundation Inquiry Expo is fast approaching, the Foundation cohort has been revisiting the key ideas they learned in their living things unit this fortnight. Students have been discovering how to group animals and plants based on their external and observable features. The Foundation students have begun drafting their projects, ensuring they sort living things and non living things correctly. Students are eager to present their learning and discoveries with their families at the expo!

Auslan
This fortnight in Auslan, Foundation students have been learning how to sign sea animals. Students had the opportunity to learn how to sign some of their favourite sea animals including dolphin, shark, seahorse, and jellyfish. The Foundation cohort also began learning how to sign days of the week. Students focused on fingerspelling the days as they signed along the days of the week song.

Social and Emotional Learning
The Foundation students have begun exploring how they can be the same in some ways and different in others through a game called “Voting with My Hands and Feet.” Students shared their likes and dislikes, such as favourite foods, colours, and playground activities by voting with their hands, standing, sitting, or moving around the room. The Foundation cohort discovered that boys and girls can enjoy the same things or different things. Students are learning to respect each other’s choices, celebrate similarities and differences.

Special Event - Healthy Eating Seminar
The Foundation cohort participated in an engaging seminar all about healthy eating. They explored the importance of making good food choices and discussed why healthy eating matters for our bodies and minds. Students discovered how to fuel their bodies with the right foods and why balance is important. The Foundation students reflected on their own choices and engaged in asking questions about how to make healthier decisions.
