Health and Physical Education

Foundation

Foundation students have been focusing on learning and following simple rules within games and activities. This has helped them understand how to participate fairly and respectfully while being active. In addition, they have been participating in an athletics unit by practising their running, jumping, and throwing skills. These activities have built both confidence and enjoyment as students get ready for upcoming athletics events.

Year 1

Year 1 students have been working on their chest passing and ball bouncing skills. Over the past two weeks, they have had the chance to apply these skills in modified games of basketball, learning how to share the ball with teammates and make quick decisions in a game setting. The focus has been on working together, moving into space, and using the skills they have been practising to help their team.

Year 2

Year 2 students have been participating in striking activities, where they rotated through stations focusing on both two-hand and forehand striking. This rotation allowed students to practise a variety of skills with different equipment and games. By experiencing multiple activities, students have been able to improve their technique and understand how striking skills can be used across different sports.

Year 3

Year 3 students have also been developing their striking abilities, with a focus on applying these skills in a game of hockey. They have been practising their control, accuracy, and teamwork, while learning how to move the ball effectively in game situations. These activities have encouraged students to think strategically while developing their coordination and striking skills.

Year 4

Year 4 students have been learning about basketball, with a particular focus on moving into space. They have played modified games such as 2 vs 1 and 3 vs 2, which required them to make smart decisions and pass the ball to a teammate in a good position. This has helped them to recognise the importance of teamwork, communication, and positioning in order to be successful in game play.

Year 5 students have started a new volleyball unit. They began by showing what they remembered about the key skills of the game, including the set, dig, and serve. Students have been encouraged to refine their technique and apply their skills in small game scenarios. This unit is providing opportunities for students to build on their prior knowledge and begin developing consistency in their volleyball performance.

Year 6

Year 6 students have moved onto a two-hand striking unit, starting with a game of hockey. This unit has allowed them to focus on accuracy, control, and teamwork while developing their striking technique. By applying these skills in game situations, students are learning how to combine individual skill execution with strategic play to support their team.

Woodlands District Athletics – Tuesday, Week 9

We are excited to share that the Woodlands District Athletics Carnival will be held on Tuesday, 16th September (Week 9). This event is a fantastic opportunity for students to represent Craigieburn Primary School, showcase their athletic skills, and celebrate the hard work they have put in to be successful in making it to this round.

The District Athletics brings together students from schools across the Woodlands District to compete in a range of track and field events. It is always a wonderful day filled with teamwork, determination, and school pride, and it gives students the chance to challenge themselves against others in a supportive and encouraging environment.

We are very proud of all the students who have qualified for this event and wish them the best of luck as they compete. We know they will display excellent sportsmanship, resilience, and effort, both on and off the track.
