Yr 9/10 Division Table Tennis 

Our year 9/10 table tennis crew had a great day out at MSAC earlier in the term. With both the boys and the girls A + B team going almost completely undefeated for the whole day. Both our girls and boys teams are heading off to regionals now after such a successful day. Well done crew!

Intermediate Girls Regional Soccer  

On the 13th of August the year 9/10 girls soccer team went to regionals at DISC. The girls had their first game against Mt Ridley where they came away with a 3-0 win. In the second game the girls versed Coburg where they won 4-1, shoutout to Isla for having a strong performance up top which led us to victory. Our last game was against Eltham, if we won this game it would secure us a spot in the final. The girls were determined and walked away with a  8-0 victory. Shoutout to Cleo for scoring 3 of the goals. We faced Brunswick in the final, the girls knew this would be a tough game as Brunswick were also undefeated throughout the day. The girls left everything they had out on the pitch and ended up winning 3-1. Were so proud of what the girls have achieved so far and can’t wait to coach them in the state final!!

9/10 Division Hockey  

On the 19th of August a group of year 9/10 boys went to Reservoir High school to play hockey. The boys had a tough game up first, but managed to work together well to secure a 2-1 win! They then followed through to win the next 2 games and will be heading through to regionals. So great to see them play so well, good job boys! 

  The girls team only had one game against Thornbury.  Lead by Ruby Newnham and Maddie Courtney, they combined well but just couldn’t quite take the win from Thornbury.

Yr 8 Table Tennis

On Wednesday Sep 3, the year 8s went on a trip to Coburg table tennis club, the A team played well against Lalor with a couple tight matches ending in our favour. Shout out to Harry and Oscar for their hard-fought wins. Then easily able to beat St Johns and Thornbury making it to the finals where they easily defeated Preston advancing to regionals. The Bs had a great day with lots of fun and laughs and played in great spirits. The girls had a great run leading up to the finals unfortunately couldn’t get the job done but still had a great day out.

Intermediate Girls State Soccer

On Tuesday 9th September, the Northcote High School Year 9/10 girls soccer team competed in the State Finals at DISC. They played three tough matches, going down to Catholic College Wodonga and Catherine McAuley College, but finishing strong with a great win against Daylesford Secondary College. It was a huge achievement to make it through to the State Finals, and everyone played well and gave it their best effort, especially with a few injuries throughout the day. There were some standout performances from Asia Wood, Tepa Mulemba-Bastian and Finlay Lyon, but the whole team should be proud of how they represented NHS at this level.

Also a big thanks to student coaches Vanessa Tabakis and Vicky Kastoras.

Regional Athletics

On Wednesday 10 September we had 26 students compete in the Regional Athletics at Meadowglen Athletics track. Congratulations to all of our team members who competed in very trying conditions with strong chilling winds.

These students came home with medals as follows - Charlotte Wear 2nd 800m, 3rd 1500m, Stella Cook, Leo Pepe and Ferida Kiriazia all came 2nd in their Hurdle events, Lucy Falkinder 2nd High Jump, Thomas Follis-Kirby 2nd 100m, Ben Olmstead 3rd 1500m, Otis Shelly 2nd 800m and Ben Hodginkson 2nd in Javelin.

We had Wolfgang Curry won gold in all of his 5 events across the day (100m, 200m, 400m, Long Jump, Triple Jump) He will be competing in State Athletics for all 5 events next term. We wish him well.

Yr 7 Basketball

The As we’re left undefeated in a great effort in the tournament, as we’re the Bs until they faced an unlucky final loss against a taller Thornbury team. Both teams showed great participation and determination to win as well as an impressive effort on the offensive half of the court. It was great to see all students having fun and expressing great sportsmanship while representing Northcote. The As are off to regionals now where we aim to do as well as we did in this tournament

Uta Tanaka Yr 10

Our girls teams had some great matches throughout the day. Both teams were playing off in the A Pool so it meant some really tough games for our B team. The B girls took it in their stride and played some very competative matches throughout the day.

Our A team moved through their pool winning every match to come up against Thornbury in the Grand Final. Unfortunately our girls missed out on the win but they put up a great fight.

It was a great day out. Considering it was a pupil free day due to PTSC we couldn’t believe how many students opted to come along and play. We only had 2 students that weren’t able to play and this was due to illness. Our student coaches were amazing, a big thank you to all of them – Wim Lobb, Uta Tanaka, Neon Hodges, Ella Stafford and Alice Gillingham. A shout out also to Joey Casamento from Yr 7 who came along and took some great action pics during the day.

Yr 7 and 8 Hockey

On the 17th of September, year 7 and 8s headed to Hardiman reserve for division hockey. The year 7 girls team were up first. For a team where most players had never picked up a hockey stick before, the team put on a stellar performance against Thornbury winning the 1 game for the day. Year 7 boys were next, despite high skill levels and teamwork, Thornbury snuck through a goal in the last couple of minutes, resulting in Northcote going down 1-0. Year 8 girls were up next, and from the very beginning they came out strong. The team had 3 different scorers, winning the game 5-0. The last game of the day was the year 8 boys. Again, not many players had picked up a hockey stick before but you couldn't tell, they played a hard fought game with Thornbury scoring in the last 4 minutes of the game. Despite terrible playing conditions with harrowing winds, all students excelled in both performance and attitude. Overall, it was a great day and the year 7 girls and year 8 girls will be heading to regionals in term 4.
