Student Leadership Conference

Leading Together: Reflection on Our Captains’ Conference
On Tuesday 26th August our student leaders came together for the Term 3 Captains’ Conference. It was a chance to step back, reflect on what we’ve achieved, and make plans for the events that are coming up this term.
We began by looking at the events from Term 2 and discussing what worked well and what we could improve. Using prompt questions like “What challenges came up, and how did we handle them?” and “What would we do differently next time?”, we shared honest feedback with each other. It was encouraging to see how much we’ve grown in our ability to plan, communicate and lead as a team.
Our focus then shifted to the big events coming up. The World’s Greatest Shave is happening on Friday 5 September, and we made an action plan to make sure every Connect class hears about it and gets involved. We also talked about Wear It Purple Day, encouraging everyone to add a splash of purple to their uniform and join in the activities in the library. Both of these events are about community, visibility and raising awareness, which are values we’re proud to champion.
Another exciting part of the conference was hearing updates from the Teach the Teacher program. Both groups are making strong progress, and it was great to see students taking ownership of big conversations about how we can make our school even better.
We also had an important discussion about the mobile phone policy, sharing student perspectives and listening to each other’s ideas. These kinds of conversations remind us that leadership isn’t just about running events - it’s also about helping to shape the culture of our school.
To finish, we agreed to hold ourselves and each other to high expectations: wearing our uniform with pride, showing up to Tuesday meetings, and reading and responding to Teams posts. We left the conference feeling proud of what we’ve achieved so far and motivated for what’s next.
As one of the student leaders, I know how much effort goes into planning and running events, but it’s also one of the most rewarding parts of our role. Seeing the school community come together - whether it’s for a fundraiser, a celebration, or a conversation - makes all the hard work worth it.
