Year 9/10

Mr Bray, Ms Kempinger, Ms Hayes, Mr McCall and Ms Sculley

Year 9

As Term 3 comes to a close, we want to acknowledge the efforts and progress made by our Year 9 students throughout this busy period. Students have been encouraged to reflect on their learning and show continued growth as we move towards the final stretch of the year. Developing stamina and grit has been a strong focus, with many students' demonstrating resilience when faced with challenges in their studies and classroom routines.

Our Term 3 progress reports showed the average GPA for Year 9 students was 3.26, and the average attendance was 88.3%. These results highlight solid application across the year level, but there is still room for improvement as we set our sights on Term 4 and the transition into Year 10. We have set a challenge for all Year 9 students to aim for 90% attendance in Term 4, ensuring they are well prepared for success in the Step-Up program and beyond.

In Term 2, students were informed about an end-of-year reward activity linked to academic growth, attendance, and positive behaviour. While the original destination of Gumbuya World is no longer available, we are excited to announce that the Year 9 Celebration Day will instead be held at Funfields Theme Park. Invitations will be based on students meeting the required criteria, as not all students will be eligible to attend. More details, including costs and consent information, will be released early in Term 4.

Looking ahead, Year 9 students will complete exams in Week 7 of Term 4. This will be an important opportunity for them to practise exam preparation and develop familiarity with assessment structures that will become more frequent in later years. Students are encouraged to begin revising early and building strong study habits to set themselves up for success.

We are proud of the growth many students have already shown this year and encourage everyone to finish strongly in Term 4. Thank you to all families and staff for their ongoing support, and well done again to our Year 9s for their hard work this term.

Let’s continue striving for improvement, displaying grit along the way, and finishing the year on a high.

Kind regards, Kevin McCall – Year 9 Team Leader Thí Pham & Blake Li – Assistant Year 9 Team Leaders Amy Barber – Year 9 Attendance Officer

Our Year 9 Mandarin students had a fantastic time in the kitchen making Chinese dumplings! Not only did they get hands-on experience with traditional cuisine, but they also had fun practicing their chopstick skills while enjoying the delicious results.

Our Year 8 and 9 students have proudly completed the Blue Edge program, a journey that helped them build teamwork, resilience, and confidence. The program concluded with a special celebration where students were recognised for their commitment and effort with certificates presented by staff and local mentors. teachers, peer, and members from the AFP joined in to mark the moment, enjoying food and refreshments together. It was a wonderful way to acknowledge the achievements of our young people and the strong community connections fostered through the program.

Year 10

It is the end of another busy term. In Term 3 students completed course counselling and are now waiting for their Year 11 subjects to be confirmed mid Term 4. During this term there has been the school production, a 4 Cs performance, the State Schools Spectacular, RUOK day and the Year 10 Celebration assembly.

Lunch with the Winners

On the 2nd September, Ms Hayes and Athena, one of the careers practitioners,  took a small group of Year 10 students to Springvale Townhall for ‘Lunch with the Winners’, an event where students from various schools were introduced to a Strategic Futurist who discussed future careers and in a highly motivational speech, gave advice to students about being adaptable, open to learning and embracing every opportunity presented.  Students from each school competed to make the highest tower using only marshmallows and spaghetti, showing the ability to strategise and work cooperatively together. On the 16th of September, a range of Year 10 students participated in the 4Cs performance at Bunjil Place in Narre Warren showcasing their culture to hundreds of people. Students have been practicing for many months using their lunchtimes and after schools to put on a spectacular show that radiated energy and pride for culture and community.

On Thursday 18/9, we had our Year 10 Celebration assembly. We celebrated students who had 100% attendance- a great effort! Students who have not been late in Term 3 – an outstanding effort! We also celebrated the students with the highest GPA results in Term 3- there were six students who received a perfect score! We celebrated the student who has improved the most in their GPA and students who received a subject award. (photos provided)
