School Wide Positive Behaviour Support

At Cranbourne East Secondary College, we strive to give every student, every opportunity to exceed their potential. We are proud to provide a safe, supportive, and engaging environment where students are motivated to learn, staff are empowered to teach effectively, and the entire community feels connected and valued.

Maintaining this positive culture takes time and effort. To continue strengthening our learning community, our College has begun implementing the School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) framework.

SWPBS is a proactive approach that brings our whole school community together to develop improved, positive, safe, supportive, and predictable learning expectations and culture. At its core, SWPBS is about setting our students up for success by explicitly teaching, modelling, and reinforcing the behaviours that reflect our shared expectations: Be Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible.

By focusing on positive behaviour, SWPBS enables students and staff to build strong relationships and concentrate on learning. When implemented effectively, this framework benefits our entire school community through:

  • Increased respectful and positive behaviour
  • More time dedicated to teaching and learning
  • Improved social-emotional wellbeing
  • Stronger, more respectful relationships among students and staff
  • Greater use of evidence-based instructional practices
  • A predictable environment with improved safety, attendance, and engagement

Recently, “The Vault” has been delivered as part of our new SWPBS reward system. Over the coming weeks, The Vault will begin to take shape and will be filled with rewards that students can purchase using the Positive Behaviour Points they earn by consistently demonstrating our expected behaviours.

In addition, during the second last week of term, a number of staff and students took part in filming our new explicit behaviour videos. These videos will help staff and students understand the expected behaviours within our SWPBS Matrix and will support clear and consistent messaging across the College.

Looking ahead, SWPBS will have its first official test run during STEP UP at the end of Term 4, before a full rollout begins in 2026.

We are excited about the positive impact SWPBS will have on our school culture and look forward to sharing more updates with you soon.

Wellbeing

The second half of Term 3 has been about fostering connection and celebration - We held a vibrant Cultural Corner activity for our African students, supported by Mr. Yung and Mrs. Birgen. Students prepared and cooked Pilau, a popular African dish, and proudly shared it with teachers, peers, and family, creating a warm and inclusive atmosphere. We also hosted Ubuntu Vibes for Year 11 and 12 students of African descent. This bring-and-share event celebrated cultural food and featured student alumni, professionals from diverse careers, and community leaders who connected with students, answered questions and offered guidance.

This year's RUOK? Day on Thursday the 11th of September was a wonderful celebration, it was a reminder for all of us that the power of a meaningful conversation and the importance of checking it. It was inspiring to see both students and staff come together to connect and engage in meaningful conversations. These moments highlight why developing connection and checking in is so important.

The day was filled with a range of activities aimed at raising awareness about mental health and wellbeing. These activities included breakfast club in the morning, a school wide word search and year 12 run lunchtime activities, students engaged in mural building and art therapy to express their feelings and thoughts. The photobooth, karaoke and biscuit decorating provided wonderful and joyful moments of laughter and connection.

Just simply asking 'RUOK?' is the first step towards making a difference in someone's life. It shows that a simple act of kindness can create meaningful connection and gives us the opportunity to open up about mental health and allows us to be heard and seen.

Let’s keep the conversation going every day.
